Area RSVP seeks volunteers

for tax assistance program

FOLLANSBEE --The Brooke-Hancock-Ohio-Marshall Retired and Senior Volunteer Program seeks volunteers for the AARP tax assistance program, which is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays through the tax season at the Brooke County Senior Center.

Individuals who have done their own taxes are ideal candidates, though anyone is welcome. All volunteers are required to take an open book test within a 45 day period.

All tax returns completed by volunteers are reviewed by another tax counselor for accuracy.

RSVP Director Tonette Alward said the future of the program locally is dependent on attaining new volunteers as two of its current longtime counselors will be 84 this year.

She said that, during the last two years, volunteers in the four counties prepared 680 returns for residents from throughout the Tri-State Area.

Those interested in volunteering should call (304) 527-3410, ext. 4.
