Toronto Senior Citizens
welcome 58 to meeting
TORONTO -- Judy Bickler opened the Jan. 23 meeting of the Toronto Senior Citizens with a blessing for the covered-dish dinner.
Doris Matyas led the 56 members and two guests in opening exercises and introduced guests Mary Ann McGee and Linda Livingstone.
Roll call and minutes were read by Fran Sheets and accepted. Joyce Dobbs reported on get well card she had sent. Rosemary Bonefine gave the treasurer's report, which was accepted.
Matyas announced that all offices will remain for the coming year.
The next meeting will be the group's Valentine's dinner and a pizza night. Members whose names begin with A-M will bring salads and N-X will bring desserts.
The executive committee will meet at 3 p.m. on Feb. 13.
Bickler reviewed several trips, noting March 13 is the date to pay in full for the Holland Tulip Festival, May 5-7. Other outings are, Pirates game, May 24; "A Chorus Line," Benedum Center, Aug. 1; and Smokey Mountains, Sept. 14-18. The door prize winner was Lola Swanagan, and Sal Robinson won the 50-50 drawing. Other door prizes winners were Mary Scott, Dave Krause, Linda Livingstone and Dolly Robinson.
Dave Krause will be in charge of the picnic in August.
Bingo winners were Mary Ann McGee, Barbara Losey, Mary Scott, Joyce Berdine and Linda Livingstone. Scat winners were Joyce Dobbs and Karen Krause.
Weirton VFW Post 2716 to host
fundraiser dinner Saturday
WEIRTON --The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2716 in Weirton is having a fundraiser dinner on Saturday in the hall located at 3435 Main St.
Dinner will be served from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction. All proceeds from the Chinese auction will benefit the National American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Museum and Research Center in Wellsburg.
Each $7 tickets includes a dinner of spaghetti and meatball, salad, bread and butter, dessert and two beverages. It also includes five opportunities to win $500 based on the W.Va. lottery number drawn that day.
Following the dinner and beginning at 8 p.m. DJ Laura will be in the canteen for karaoke and musical entertainment.
