Fundraiser dinner, auction
Sunday at Weirton church
WEIRTON -- Cove Presbyterian Church, located at 3404 Main St., Weirton, will be the site of a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and auction from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday to benefit Delphia Anderson Miller of Colliers.
The $10 dinner includes spaghetti with meatball, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. There also will be a Chinese auction and a 50-50 drawing.
Tickets are available in advance by contacting George at (304) 914-8239 or Summer at (304) 374-7020. Tickets also are available at the door, and patrons can dine in or get to-go orders.
"Delphia, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, basketball coach, bowler, avid youth sports supporter and advocate, suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage in October 2019," a letter from Alecia Stromeyer of Colliers notes. "As a result, she has been rendered bed confined and in a semi-comatose state. Prior to the cerebral hemorrhage, Delphia's health already had been compromised from years of battling Lupus."
The letter adds that she lives with her husband, Tim, her primary caretaker who is battling stage IV pancreatic cancer.
"Our purpose for doing the benefit is to purchase medical equipment that is not covered by insurance to make the care for Delphia more comfortable, effective and, most importantly, safer for her and her caregivers," the letter notes. "Any funds remaining after the purchase of the equipment will go to Delphia and her family to cover medical expenses or support with any other needs."

Virginia' topic CEOS program
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Community Educational Outreach Service will meet Thursday at the Hancock County Senior Center on Gas Valley Road, beginning at 11 a.m. for lunch and followed by the regular monthly meeting at noon.
This month's lesson, to be presented by Janet Keller, is "Covered Bridges of West Virginia" and is meant to increase the awareness and preservation of these historic structures. "It also is designed to educate people on the history surrounding the state's 17 covered bridges and to help promote tourism," a spokesperson explained.
For February's project, club members will be collecting fleece throws to be made into cat and doggie beds at the Hancock County Animal Shelter. They also will be taking donations of old towels, sheets, blankets, etc., to be used in the shelter's sick room.
The public is welcome to attend the lesson and the meeting free of charge. For those wishing to join club members for lunch, the standard senior center fee of $5 will apply.
Next session of Farmers'
Breakfast Series on Feb. 21
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio State University Extension will host the next session of its ongoing Farmers' Breakfast Series on Feb. 21 at the OSU Extension Jefferson County office, located in suite 512 at 500 Market St., Steubenville.
The monthly sessions began in January and continue through April, running from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and covering farm management topics for local producers and providing opportunities for networking with local farmers, agencies and industry experts.
February's topic will cover property considerations for those contemplating getting started with crops or livestock. "Trying to decide what to do with your land? Then this session is for you," notes a news release from Erika Lyon, agriculture and natural resources educator, OSU Extension Jefferson and Harrison counties.
"We will cover the space requirements of different livestock species and crops, building costs, regulations, renovation and lime application and more," she explained.
Future sessions will include topics on hemp production in Ohio and record keeping and farm accounting ledgers.
The cost of each session is $5 and includes breakfast. Pre-registration is required and can be done by contacting the OSU Extension office at (740) 264-2212 or sending an e-mail to lyon.194@osu.edu one week before each session. Questions about other farm management subjects can be directed to Lyon at the same number.
OSU Extension will provide accommodations to handicapped persons needing assistance to participate in Extension programs. For information contact the Extension office.

accepts slate of officers
STEUBENVILLE -- The January meeting of the Edwin M. Stanton Chapter 1412 of Ohio Questers met at Scaffidi's Restaurant with President Becky Swickard presiding and welcoming guest Sharon Rairigh.
Dona Fisher gave the nominating committee report. Nominees are Swickard, president; Fisher, vice president; Carolyn Strobel, treasurer; and Barbara Anderson, secretary. The slate was elected as presented.
Ohio President Jenny Lyons sent a note of thanks to the group in appreciation of it hosing the spring conference in May. Lyons also noted that the spring council meeting will be held April 16-17 at Roscoe Village.
Jane Wilson and Becky Bryan will serve as hostesses for the Feb. 27 meeting at the train museum in Steubenville.
The chapter's March 26 meeting will be held at the YWCA of Steubenville with Janet Neuman and Swickard hosting.
Steubenville schools retirees
to meet for lunch on Feb. 13
STEUBENVILLE -- Twenty retirees of the Steubenville City Schools system met for lunch on Jan. 9 at Naples Spaghetti House.
Cards were circulated that were sent to the group in addition to others needing signed.
The next lunch will be held Feb. 13 at Dee Jay's in Weirton. Any Steubenville City Schools retirees can attend. Those who would like to be contacted each month about the lunch should call Linda Holub.

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County West Virginia University Extension Service Committee will meet at noon on Thursday at its office at 840 Charles St.
Approval of its annual memorandum of agreement with the Brooke County school board and annual memorandum of agreement for its employees will be considered.
Weirton VFW auxiliary having
fundraiser breakfast Saturday
WEIRTON -- The auxiliary to the Panhandle Post 2716 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is having a fundraiser pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the VFW hall, located at 3435 Main St.
The breakfast includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, ham, coffee and orange juice. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Toddlers eat for free. The event is open to the public.
Brilliant American Legion
holding fish fry on Friday
BRILLIANT -- The Brilliant American Legion Post 573, located at 210 Market St., will be holding its monthly fish fry fundraiser on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The menu includes a choice of battered or Coleman's breaded fish sandwiches, $7; chicken tender basket, five for $7; shrimp basket, five for $7; and fish nugget basket, six for $7. The selections also can be purchased as a dinner for $10. Dinners come with bread, french fries and cole slaw.

The Legion also will be holding a fish fry on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Return of pageants for Ohio
Valley happening on April 3
STEUBENVILLE -- The Jr. Miss and Miss Black Teen Ohio Valley Pageants are back, according to an e-mail news release.
Director Nicole Horston produced both pageants for five years before moving to Columbus and is looking for students in middle and high school to participate in the production that takes place on April 3 at Eastern Gateway Community College.

"The pageant is open to young ladies who are currently attending school within the Ohio Valley," the release notes. The event is open to the public.

Alzheimer's support group
locations, dates are noted
STEUBENVILLE -- The Alzheimer's Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter makes Alzheimer's caregiver support groups available free of charge, open to all caregivers, family members and friends with a loved one affected by the disease or another form of dementia.
There are two area support groups in place, including one on the third Thursday of the month in room 1506 of Eastern Gateway Community College. It begins at 6 p.m.
The other is held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m., St. Mary's Church, 212 West Main St., in St. Clairsville.

Voter registration drive
set for Feb. 15 at EGCC
STEUBENVILLE -- Eastern Gateway Community College's TRIO Upward Bound program will be sponsoring a voter registration drive.
It will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the college's Founder's Hall.
Those who turn 18 by Nov. 3 can register to vote.
