Jefferson County closed for now
STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County closed to the public on Tuesday until further notice as a measure of safety for employees, customers and to decrease further widespread of the coronavirus to the public, according to a news release issued by Jennifer Ceta, public relations coordinator.
During this time there will be no late fees, and due dates will be extended.
Library customers are encouraged to digitally connect to the library system for e-books, music, movies and more at www.steubenvillelibrary.org
“WiFi extends to the library’s parking lot. Please use it,” the release notes. The password is librarywifi.

Salvation Army of Steubenville
offers pantry, Sunday meals
STEUBENVILLE — The Salvation Army of Steubenville, located at 332 N. Fourth St., is opening its doors to continue to serve through its food pantry and Sunday Shepherd’s Table soup kitchen.
Days and times for services include today and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. for prepacked food pantry in addition to Friday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Shepherd’s Table soup kitchen on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. will provide takeout meals only, according to Lt. Erik D. Muhs, commanding officer, The Salvation Army Steubenville Corps Community Center

TORONTO — The Toronto American Legion Post 86, located at 415 Market St., is continuing its state-sanctioned fish fry on Fridays through Good Friday, April 9, according to a news release.
The fish fry runs from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for carryout and delivery only. The menu includes cod, fries and coleslaw. the phone number is (740) 537-9317.
Beginning beekeepers course
still on with virtual instruction
STEUBENVILLE — The “buzz” is the bee series is still on, just under different circumstances, due to precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus.
Ohio State University and Ohio State University Extension have announced the suspension of face-to-face instruction of lectures, discussion sections, seminars and other similar classroom settings, and the move to virtual instruction through at least March 30.
Area residents continue to be invited to join with the Jefferson County Beekeepers Association and Ohio State University Extension to learn about the basics of beekeeping as part of a series of upcoming classes.
Joe Kovaleski, Eastern Apicultural Society master beekeeper, co-owner of Buena Vista Honey Farms and longtime beekeeper, will cover the basics of starting a hive with no prior experience required and noted the first few sessions at least will be virtual. Participants will be notified if there is a return to in-person sessions.
Classes will run on Thursdays from March 26 to April 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Topics covered include how to find a good location for a hive, maintaining public relations, space and time requirements, acquiring bees, hive components, honey bee biology and nutrition, pest and disease management and installing bee packages.
Cost of the course is $75 per person, which includes a copy of “Simple, Smart Beekeeping” by Kirsten S. Traynor and Michael J. Traynor. Pre-registration is required by March 23.
