STEUBENVILLE -- Urban Mission Ministries will be beginning its fourth Jobs for Life training with the spring session scheduled to begin April 7.

"Jobs for Life is a work readiness class that takes a holistic approach to helping each individual," explained Kelly Jeffers, the mission's director of new initiatives." The job readiness program is built upon Biblical principles that prepare students for real life success.

Held in a classroom setting, the sessions run for a two-month period with classes held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

"We are currently enrolling students and mentors," Jeffers said. There will be two informational sessions at the War Memorial Building, which is located at 423 North St.

The first will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on March 17. "At this time, interested students can learn more about what the Jobs for Life program offers and what becoming a student entails," Jeffers noted. "We work with adult learners, and anyone is welcomed to take the classes regardless of education or experience."

She continued, "We also are holding a second informational session that week for mentors." That will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on March 19, also at the War Memorial Building.

"Mentors are an important piece to the Jobs for Life program," Jeffers said. "They offer support, friendship and wisdom to the students. Becoming a Jobs for Life mentor is a meaningful journey that is sure to give you a new perspective on community, life and faith."

A work component is being added to the program called Urban Mission Works. The pilot program, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, will provide stipends to individuals enrolled in the Jobs for Life program who also desire to work in one of the ministry areas for a set amount of time.

Anyone interested in learning about the program is encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served. For information, call Jeffers at (740) 282-8010.
