Drive-in worship services
for Easter weekend canceled
Stay-at-home orders have impacted plans for three drive-in style church services that had been planned in the area. The cancellations include:
– Crossroads Christian Church, Winter Drive-In, Winersville, April 11.
– Ohio Valley District United Methodist Church, Winter Drive-In, Wintersville, April 12; and
– Toronto Area Ministerial Association, Toronto High School parking lot, April 12.
School system retirees
have March luncheon
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville City Schools retirees met March 12 for lunch at Margaret’s in Toronto.
There were 19 in attendance. Get well cards were signed. “Once we are able to go out again, participants will receive phone calls giving details,” a spokesperson noted.
Genealogy chapter making
plans for a May program
WINTERSVILLE — The Jefferson County Genealogy Chapter will sponsor a special free program that’s open to the public and scheduled for May 3.
The program will be held at the Stratton Municipal Building, located at 136 Second Ave., Stratton, beginning with light refreshments served at 1 p.m.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m., Katy Zane will speak about “How to Archive and Preserve Documents and Photos.” Topics will include document preservation, photo digitization and preservation, cataloguing and organizing, materials and industry standards, resources available and hazards to a collection.
Family historians as well as others who work with documents and photos will find the information valuable, a chapter spokesperson noted.
Zane received her master’s degree in library and information science with an advanced certificate in archival studies and record management from Wayne State University in 2018. She has worked as a librarian and archivist for West Liberty University for two years and recently was promoted to head of learning resources. She presented at a statewide conference in 2018 on how to educate students about library resources. She has taught more than 75 classes to students about database navigation and is currently enrolled at Marshall University to earn a doctorate in education in leadership skills.

Nursing Alumni Association
cancels meeting, trip
STEUBENVILLE — The biannual meeting of the Ohio Valley Hospital/Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association has been canceled.
It was to have been held April 15 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church. Also canceled is the group’s fundraiser trip to Amish country, which was scheduled for May 14. Questions can be directed to Char Biacco at (740) 264-2622 or Blanche Williams at (740) 282-6502.
The trip was to raise money to continue to award three scholarships to Trinity School of Nursing students. Annual dues are $10 and also help.
“We encourage all alumni to send in their dues (and donations) to help, so it will easier on those helping with our fundraising events,” the association’s Facebook page notes. They can be sent to Char Biacco, 2932 Linda Way, Steubenville, OH 43952. Meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the third Wednesday of April and October at Starkdale Presbyterian Church.
