Members of the Fort Steuben Daughters of the American Revolution members continue to be active. Despite the cancellation of the April meeting, Regent Vickie Valles Joseph has scheduled a board meeting on Saturday through Zoom. Also, two of the members have been involved in a service project, making medical masks for others. To date, member DeeAnn Greene, centennial chairwoman, and Janet Rymer have sewn more than 100 masks for people who need them. Greene has made 47 masks so far. A batch of them went to Arizona for a friend with heart problems, another batch went to California for a friend battling breast cancer and another batch to a veterans' home. Numerous other masks have been given to friends and family. Rymer, DAR secretary, has finished 66 masks, which have been sent to Texas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and South Carolina. One large batch was donated to Lorrie Adkins to distribute at her job working for Acuity Care. She just finished a batch for the Weirton police officers and plans to finish a group for parents of children in the NICU at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She also has given the masks to many friends and family members. "JoAnn Fabric has generously donated supplies to the cause," it was noted. Greene and Rymer plan to continue making the masks as long as the need exists.
