Hooverson Heights Hilltoppers
Reunion scheduled for Aug. 2
FOLLANSBEE -- The annual Hooverson Heights Hilltoppers Reunion will be held Aug. 2 at the Follansbee Community House. All residents of the Hooverson Heights area of Follansbee are invited to attend the reunion.
Dinner will begin at 1 p.m. Beverages, table service and serving utensils will be provided by the committee, but those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
Bob Geary, assisted by Roy Waugh, head the planning committee, assisted by Ruth Eckles Shingleton, treasurer, and Nancy Waugh, secretary. Others on the arrangement committee include David Eddy and Rosemary Mazezka.
The Hooverson Heights Hilltoppers reunion was started decades ago by the Brindley, Bullock and Krystynak families, dating back to the 1920s.
"Everyone is invited to come and join inthe afternoon of visiting and reminiscing with old friends," an event notice reads.
New Cumberland UM churches
are welcoming new pastor
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The New Cumberland United Methodist churches are welcoming a new pastor -- the Rev. Sharmune Burgess
Burgess comes from Moundsville where she served as the minister to Oak Grove and Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Originally from the island of St. Kitts, Burgess moved to the United Kingdom while she was in her teens. She then came to America, pastored in Pennsylvania and now is bringing her ministry to West Virginia.
Burgess began her ministry in New Cumberland on July 5. Services are held at Point Pleasant United Methodist at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, and worship begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church. WMC Auxiliary members plan
two-day uniform and shoe sale
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary members are hosting a Robert's medical uniform and shoe sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. The sale will be held on level one in conference rooms A, B, C.
Hancock Humane Foundation
plans cat spay, neuter clinic
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County Humane Foundation is holding a low-cost cat spay and neuter clinic on Aug. 16.

Annual Teddy Bear Tea's
cancellation announced
WEIRTON -- The Literary Department, a member of the Weirton Woman's Club, and the Mary H. Weir Public Library have announced the cancellation of the annual Teddy Bear Tea held in July, due to COVID-19 precautions. It will resume next July.
Annual fall Riverfest canceled
