Follansbee woman selected
as Democrat of the Year
FOLLANSBEE -- Linda Arbogast of Follansbee, a member of the Brooke County Democratic Women, has been selected as the Brooke County Democrat of the Year.
The Roosevelt-Kennedy annual event was held Oct. 24 in Charleston, but because of COVID-19, it was a virtual event.
Arbogast has been an office holder in the Brooke County Democratic Women, having served as president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. She has attended state meetings and headed fundraisers and Meet the Candidates functions, "commiting herself to Democratic political fundamentals," a group spokeswoman noted.
She also serves on BWEC, WVEA, Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa and holds office with the retired teachers association.
Satellite veterans office open on Wednesday in Dillonvale
STEUBENVILLE -- The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Dillonvale City Building, 135 School St., Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans and/or veterans' widows with VA pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veteran's benefits.
For information or assistance, call the Veterans Service Office at (740) 283-8571 or visit the office at 500 Market St., Suite 310, Steubenville. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. On the second Wednesday of the month, the office closes at noon for a board meeting.
Soup and sandwich sale at
Pleasant Hill Fire Department
STEUBENVILLE -- The Pleasant Hill Fire Department Auxiliary will be holding an Election Day soup and sandwich sale fundraiser.
It will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until items sell out. Patrons can call ahead for carryout orders at (740) 282-0503. The menu includes soup by the quart, $8; pint, $4; or bowl, $2.50. The varieties are chicken noodle, potato or vegetable. Sandwiches available include hot dog, $1.50; sloppy joe or sloppy dog, $2.50; and sausage with peppers and onions, $3.50.
The fire department is located at 3297 state Route 213.
