Caregiver Recognition Contest, accepting nominations
WINTERSVILLE -- Wintersville-based Charity Hospice is holding a Caregiver Recognition Contest that is open to the community.
Nominations for a family caregiver award and para-professional caregiver award are being accepted through the Nov. 23 deadline.
"We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful caregivers who give so much of themselves to care for others," noted Abby Manni, marketer for Charity Hospice.
"We decided to do this because November is National Caregiver Month and usually there are several events in the area where these fantastic caregivers can be honored, but unfortunately this year is different," Manni continued. "We wanted to show these wonderful men and women that we appreciate all that they do, day in and day out to support their family and friends as they try to respect their wishes and maintain a good quality of life."
The contest is open to professional and family caregivers in Jefferson, Harrison and Columbiana counties.
Applications can be filled out and e-mailed, faxed or mailed to Charity Hospice at P.O. Box 2483, Wintersville OH 43953. All submissions must be received by Nov. 23. Questions can be directed to the office at (740) 264-2280 or visit the Facebook page.
The selection will be conducted on Nov. 30.
"We will be reviewing the submissions in the office and delivering the winners a prize after our selection is made to ensure social distancing and minimizing contact," she added of COVID-19 precautions to be observed.
Ministerial association notes
cancellation of holiday meal
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Ministerial Association has announced that this year's annual Thanksgiving dinner has been canceled.
"For reasons related to the COVID-19 crisis, the much looked-forward-to and well-attended event at the Greater Weirton Senior Center will not take place," noted Pastor Gary C. Lilly.
The dinner is a tradition of more than 20 years.
"All of the ministers of the Weirton Ministerial Association, the churches they represent and the many agencies and volunteers who make the annual event possible wish everyone a blessed and joyful Thanksgiving and a very merry and Christ-filled Christmas," Lilly noted in a release.
"It is everyone's hope that we will be able to share next year's Thanksgiving together as a caring and loving community."
Toronto Legion planning
Veterans Day observance
TORONTO -- The Toronto American Legion Post 86 will commemorate Veterans Day at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Toronto War Memorial.
All members and Toronto-area veterans are asked to attend.
An open house will follow at the post's grand hall, where distancing and other COVID protocol will be followed.
Indoor yard sale Saturday
at Wayne Township Center
UNIONPORT -- A large indoor yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Wayne Township Community Center in Unionport.
Proceeds will benefit the community center.
Food will be available.
Brooke Library to screen
fantasy film on Nov. 12
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show "The Secret Garden,' a PG-rated film based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, at 5 p.m. Nov. 12.
