Bell Chapel UMC dinner
Wednesday to honor veterans
STEUBENVILLE — Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 3419 state Route 213, Steubenville, will be having a carryout spaghetti dinner from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to honor veterans.
All veterans eat for free. The cost is $10 for everyone else. All money collected will be given to programs to help veterans.
Author to present virtual talk on book set in West Virginia
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library has announced that Linda Jones — better known as Daniel Rose, author of “The Land of Nod,” will present a virtual talk on her book, which is set in West Virginia, at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Baked steak dinner at
Hill Top Presbyterian
TORONTO — Hill Top Presbyterian Church, 110 county Road 46, Toronto, will be holding a takeout only baked steak dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 18.
The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and cake. Donations are appreciated.
“You must come inside to pick up your meal,” a church spokesperson noted. “Thank you to those who supported our last dinner, and we apologize to those who didn’t get served as we sold out early. More will be prepared for the Nov. 18 dinner.”
Masks are required, social distancing will be maintained.
Weirton church having
soup, sandwich sale
WEIRTON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church is having a takeout-only soup and sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 21.
Bean and ham, potato and wedding soup will be for sale. Quarts are $8, and pints are $4.
Sandwiches are sloppy joes and ham barbecue for $4 each. Pumpkin, apple and peach pies will be sold whole or by the slice.
This is a takeout only sale. Pre-orders can call the church to place an order at (304) 723-4120 and leave a message. Orders also can be called in on Thursday through Saturday.
The church is located on Three Springs Drive in Weirton.
West Virginia Lions seeking
students to travel abroad
Each year, the Lions Clubs of West Virginia provide the opportunity for several students to travel abroad.
This year, six travel grants for $1,400 will be awarded to students in grades 10 through 12 or a recent graduate toward a four- to six-week cultural exchange to countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Fran, Germany, Finland, Japan, Italy, Peru or Australia during the summer of 2021. Destination countries are not limited to the ones mentioned.
The application deadline is Friday.
The Lions of West Virginia rely heavily on the guidance counselors in each high school to get the word out about this program. Students may contact their high school guidance counselors for information, an application and contest rules.
The Youth Exchange scholarship application and scholarship contest rules forms are available on the West Virginia Lions website at www.wvlions.org/youth.html.

Wellsburg church plans
Christmas cookie sale
WELLSBURG — Christ Episcopal Church in Wellsburg will be having its annual Christmas cookie Sale on Dec. 12.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no indoor sales. Nut horns, lady locks and a variety of other cookies will be available to preorder for $7 per dozen. To place an order for pickup on the day of the sale, call Sylvia Ensell at (304) 748-4082.
Crocheting class offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will host a crochet class for adults, beginners through experts, at noon Nov. 18.
