Richmond remembers

-- Contributed

The Richmond Community Historical Society hosted an informal Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, with members assembling in front of the Crew House Museum on Main Street, Richmond, including veterans, from left, Don Swickard, Dan Vojvodich and Ralph Proffitt. The brief ceremony included the group reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the ringing of the bell by Vojvodich and Proffitt at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, a time and date marking the anniversary of the 1918 signing of the Armistice between the Allies and Germany, bringing the end of the fighting on the western front in World War I. The signing took place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month.
