Legion Auxiliary helps make holiday brighter for veterans

STEUBENVILLE — Although the Steubenville American Legion Post 33 Auxiliary members weren’t able to hold their traditional Christmas outreach in appreciation of area veterans at local nursing home facilities, they took an alternative approach on a smaller scale to make the holiday special for those who served their country.

“Because of the pandemic, the American Legion Auxiliary wasn’t able to entertain, feed and present our veterans from our local nursing homes with gifts,” expained auxiliary member Dorothy Mazik. “So one of our great members, Liz Smith, organized this event. She received names of local veterans and/or their families. With the help of Wal-Mart and their distribution center and the auxiliary, we were able to help make a nice Christmas for these well deserved veterans,” Mazik noted.

“God willing, we will be able to resume all of our activities in the 2021,” she added.
