Applebee’s, Friendship Room are partnering

Contributed HELPING THOSE IN NEED — Bill McGovern, founder of the Friendship Room nonprofit outreach, stocks an outdoor food pantry at the Mission House, 419 Logan St., Steubenville, for those who come along and need items.

STEUBENVILLE — The Friendship Room of Steubenville will be participating in Applebee’s new Together We Care fundraising program.

The event will take place Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Applebee’s at 389 John Scott Highway, Steubenville. The fundraiser will feature a menu that includes five of Applebee’s favorite dinners for patrons to dine in or get as takeout.

The menu items include grilled chicken casear salad, fiesta lime chicken, classic bacon cheeseburger, chicken tenders platter and three cheese chicken penne.

The Friendship Room will receive a 50 percent donation from the sale of all the dinners purchased from the Together We Care menu during those hours.

“There are many in need, especially during these cold months. We need help providing essentials and meeting the immediate needs every day like hot food, hot drinks, hand and foot warmers, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, blankets, warm clothing and being available 24/7 for emergency needs,” explained Molly McGovern, director, and Victoria Fallon, executive assistant.

“Also, our other houses have guests in them, and this fundraiser will help us with the utilities and maintenance of these homes as well as for our Mission House,” they noted, referring to the Friendship House at 419 Logan St.

The nonprofit Friendship Room operates five outreach locations that include the Mission House at 419 Logan St., Steubenville; two homes with guests; one having some work done on it so guests can move in; and a safe house for women caught in sex trafficking.

The homes belong to the Friendship Room and are in different locations not advertised.

“Our ministry is a transformational ministry rather than a transactional ministry,” McGovern noted. “Services are offered to each guest based on their need. Our goal is to offer individual care to each guest. We do not do for others what they are able to do for themselves.”
