S.T.E.M. grants available
again for area educators
WHEELING -- The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley has announced the continuation of a strategic grant partnership with Southwestern Energy that will support S.T.E.M. -- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math -- education.
The partnership provides mini-grant opportunities for kindergarten through grade 12 educators in Brooke, Ohio, Marshall and Wetzel county public school systems who seek to incorporate S.T.E.M. concepts into the classroom.
SWN's ongoing commitment to STEM education supports the energy company's desire to be an active corporate citizen while enhancing elements of the educational process, according to Susie Nelson, executive director of CFOV. The mini-grants will provide up to $500 for area teachers to explore unique ways to enrich student learning that may not otherwise be possible.
Since starting in 2018, the grant program has supported projects in 37 area classrooms. Funded projects share a common theme of exposing students to creative S.T.E.M.-based experiences and tools. To date, the fund has awarded $16,950.52 in grants.
The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley administers the fund, with grantees selected through a competitive grant process.
"This program truly represents the power of partnerships, and we look forward to another successful round of funding," Nelson commented. "COVID has certainly added to the already challenging work facing educators, and it is our hope this grant opportunity will expand and support S.T.E.M.-based learning in new forms," she said.
Applications are being accepted through March 1. For an application or information on the SWN S.T.E.M. Grant Program, visit www.cfov.org/southwestern-energy/, call CFOV at (304) 242-3144 or e-mail debbie@cfov.org.
