Brooke alum wins scholarship for design of health care facility

MORGANTOWN -- Cassidy Bland Roberts, a 2014 graduate of Brooke High School, has won a $2,500 scholarship for her design of a health care facility in a competition held by the West Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and West Virginia Foundation for Architecture.

A Wellsburg native, Roberts is working toward a master's degree at Clemson University and is expected to graduate in May. Having earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from West Virginia University, she gained an interest in health care architecture.

Upon graduation, she hopes to create sustainable and innovative healing spaces.

Roberts said, "Having the WV AIA invest in my education throughout my graduate degree has meant so much to me. I am grateful that the architects in my home state helped ease the financial burden of furthering my education and pursuing my dreams. This program has allowed me to connect with West Virginian architects and learn about design within our state. I hope to be able to give back to the organization in the future."
