Paul “Pete” Spencer of Weirton is the Steubenville Art Association’s featured artist for February, with works on display in the lobby of Historic Fort Steuben, located at 120 S. Third St., Steubenville. A self-taught artist, Spencer first took an interest in the arts because his wife had been a painter before her death. Spencer eventually decided to try his hand at it. A longtime member of the SAA, the octogenarian was a 40-year employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel before his retirement. Also a Top of West Virginia member, Spencer has paintings in the Summit Gallery gift shop. Having participated in the art association’s spring show for many years, Spencer enjoys acrylic painting of people, animals and landscapes.
