Some Friday fish fries being held during Lent

St. Thomas Episcopal Church

WEIRTON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive is having takeout-only fish fries each Friday during Lent. The hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The menu is a fish dinner, $10, which includes fish (baked or fried), fries and a choice of cole slaw or applesauce; a fish sandwich, $6; side dishes of either french fries or haluski, $3, or cole slaw or applesauce, $1. Beverages available will be water or pop for $1.

To place an order, call (304) 723-4120 and leave a name and phone number. Callers are asked not to leave their order on the answering machine because they will be called back for it.

Mingo Knights of Columbus

MINGO JUNCTION — The Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus Monsignor Joseph F. Dooley Council 4361 is holding fish fries from noon to 7 p.m. on Fridays during Lent at the council hall. They continue through March 26.

But there are changes to it because of pandemic precautions. There will be no dine-in or lobby sales, and the weekly events will be drive-through only in front of the building.

Patrons are to call in their orders to the hall phone at (740) 535-8037 or the extra line at (740) 314-2924, according to Shawn Zarych, grand knight. There will be time slots for patrons to select a time to pick up their order.

“When you order, we need your full name and your phone number,” Zarych explained, urging that orders be called in early. “Once you come to pick up your order up, you are to park in the front parking spots only. There will be a sign there — do not get out of your vehicle. You will need to call the phone number on the sign, which will not be the hall phone numbers. Do not call the hall. Call the number on the sign. We will bring your order out to you,” he added.

Orders can be paid for by cash or by a check made payable to the Columbian Club of Mingo Junction.

The menu includes 1 pound of fish, fish sandwich, fish boat, fish dinner, shrimp dinner, haluski, macaroni and cheese, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw and applesauce. For information, visit the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Joseph F. Dooley Council 4361 Facebook page.

St. Paul’s Church, Weirton

WEIRTON — The St. Paul Holy Name Men and Christian Mothers of St. Paul’s Church, 140 Walnut St., are having a fish fry every Friday during Lent and featuring Coleman fish.

The hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday during Lent.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, there are changes, according to organizers.

“We will only offer fried fish dinners (fried fish, bun, french fries and coleslaw) for $10. All orders will be takeout,” a spokesperson explained.

Orders can be called in to (304) 797-1182, which is the preferred way to order. “You also can order curbside from your car in the circle in front of the school. All orders will be paid for here — cash only — and delivered to your car.”

“We need to close curbside ordering and pickup from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. to allow parents to pick up their children from school,” the spokesperson emphasized. “Please plan accordingly. Phone orders can still be placed during this time for later pickup.”

There will be no deliveries available this year — pickup only.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope to be back to normal next year,” the spokesperson added.
