Methodist churches sponsoring free community Easter dinner April 4 in Wellsburg

WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg and Franklin United Methodist Churches are returning this year with the sponsorship of their annual community Easter Sunday dinner.

It will be held on April 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wellsburg United Methodist Church, 1045 Charles St. (11th and Charles streets).

The event is drive-up or walk-up only.

"This is a free dinner for anyone who would like to partake," a church spokesperson explained. "We are still not able to allow for a sit-down meal but we will have a walk/drive-up area.

Those who would like to call in an order can call the Wellsburg United Methodist Church at (304) 737-0488.

The meal includes creamed turkey over biscuits, vegetables, mashed potatoes and dessert.

"Last year because of COVID, we were unable to hold the dinner, which has drawn a crowd of up to 100 people," the spokesperson noted.

Wellsburg Baseball, Softball Association eyes purse auction

WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg Baseball and Softball Association will hold its second Purse Bash, an auction for 15 designer handbags, on April 10 at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. for the auction, which will occur at 8 p.m. and also will be livestreamed on the group's Facebook page. Chances are $20 each, with tickets available there and in advance at Tommy's Classic Touch.

There will be a Chinese auction from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. that day, with tickets for it available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. there on April 9.

Easter egg hunt scheduled April 3 at Bloomingdale Park

BLOOMINGDALE -- The Bloomingdale Make A Difference Committee has announced that there will be an Easter egg hunt beginning at 11 a.m. on April 3 at Bloomingdale Park.

It will include the egg hunt and cookies with the Easter bunny.

On March 27, beginning at 5 p.m., the Easter Bunny will be traveling through the area.

All COVID-19 safety guidlines will be observed.
