Weir High Class of 1971 to pursue 50-year reunion
WEIRTON -- Members of the Weir High Class of 1971 will be marking their 50-year graduation anniversary, and organizers are hoping a reunion celebrating that will be happening this summer.
The tentative date for the reunion is July 3 at Undo's on Three Springs Drive, Weirton. Peggy Baker Huyghe will be planning a meeting after the Easter holiday with help appreciated.

Weirton Heights Church to host spring gospel meetings
WEIRTON -- The Weirton Heights Church of Christ, 3169 Pennsylvania Ave., will be hosting its annual spring gospel meetings the week of April 11-16, featuring special speaker Terry Jones.
The Sunday Bible class is at 9:30 a.m.; the Sunday morning worship starts at 10:30 a.m.; the Sunday evening worship beings at 6:30 p.m.; and the evening services Monday through Friday that week begin at 7 p.m.
The schedule and topics are:
* April 11: "Growing Spiritually," Sunday Bible Class; "Remaining Faithful to God," Sunday morning worship; and "Trust in the Lord," Sunday evening worship;
* April 12: "A Message of Comfort;"
* April 13: "An Assessment of Paul's Life;"
* April 14: "Therefore I Will Hope;"
* April 15: "The Just for the Unjust;" and
* April 16: "Focused on Heaven."
Face masks are mandatory, and social distancing will be observed.

Quinn Memorial A.M.E. marks 'Journey to Resurrection'
STEUBENVILLE -- Quinn Memorial A.M.E. Church and community members have been gathering virtually during the Lenten season for a time of repentance, restoration and renewal to the theme "Journey to Resurrection."
Every Tuesday, Quinn prays at noon and 7 p.m. and Friday at noon. "On Wednesdays during Lent, we have a guest preacher who refreshes us with the word of God," notes a press release from Terry L. Jennings, publicity.
Wednesday worship at noon, which began on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17, and continues through March 31, has included the participation of week one, the Rev. Buena Dudley, Quinn Memorial A.M.E. Church, Steubenville; week two: the Rev. Samuel Ware, St. Peter's A.M.E. Church, Weirton; week three, the Rev. Clarissa Speaker, Greater Faith Family Worship Center, Industry, Pa.; week four, the Rev. Calvin McLoyd, Calvary Community Missionary Baptist Church, Steubenville; week five, the Rev. Benjamin Calvert, Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, Steubenville; and week six, the Rev. Linda Theophilus, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Penn Hills, Pa.
Culminating Lent will be Holy Week activities at Quinn to include prayer, Bible study, a Good Friday service and Resurrection Celebration.

Pittsburgh Opera's free 'Women's March' on YouTube
PITTBSURGH -- Pittsburgh Opera's free "Women's March" concert, celebrating 900 years of classical music by women composers, will be broadcast at 7 p.m. today on Pittsburgh Opera's YouTube channel.
"Women's March" is a 55-minute concert.
Pittsburgh Opera's acclaimed Resident Artists will explore a breadth of repertoire with Pittsburgh Opera Music Staff Associate Coach/Pianist James Lesniak and Head of Music Glenn Lewis in this concert directed by Resident Artist Stage Director Kaley Karis Smith.
The program includes works by composers: Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179); Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677); Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (1805-1847), Alma Mahler (1879 -1964), and Clara Schumann (1819-1896); Pauline Viardot (1821-1910); Marjory Kennedy-Fraser (1857-1930); Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979); Nadia (1887-1979) and Lili (1893-1918) Boulanger; Margaret Bonds (1913-1972); Libby Larsen (b. 1950); and Lori Laitman (b. 1955).
"These composers have given us more than just beautiful music -- they have used their talent and tenacity to ensure women have a place in the world of classical music," commented Rebekah Diaz, Pittsburgh Opera manager of community engagement and IDEA Initiatives.
Extension webinars in April on morels, spotted lanternfly
STEUBENVILLE -- Ohio State University in Jefferson and Harrison counties will be offering two webinars in April to kick off spring.
At noon on April 7, participants can learn about the identification, ecology and diversity of a mushroom favorite -- morels, explained Erika Lyon, agriculture and natural resources educator, OSU Extension Jefferson and Harrison counties.
"This webinar will dive into the species of morels found in North America -- and those you may find in Ohio -- as well as a few mushrooms commonly mistaken as members of the Morchella genus," Lyon noted. To register, visit go.osu.edu/morelmadness2021.
During an April 15 session beginning at noon, participants will learn about the spotted lanternfly in Jefferson County and what its discovery here may mean for residents and businesses.
