Free community takeout meal Thursday in Wellsburg
WELLSBURG -- Wellsburg Presbyterian Church, located at 901 Charles St., will be hosting a free community takeout meal on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The menu includes chili, cornbread and salad.
Weirton Legion hosting final fish fry of Lenten season
WEIRTON -- The Weirton American Legion Post 10, located at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., is hosting its last fish dinner for the Lenten season on Friday
In addition to sandwiches and dinners, the post will have margaritas, a 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction.
Highlighting the evening will be a decorated Easter hat contest. Prizes will be awarded for the prettiest, most original and funniest. The hall and the club will be open to the public.

Irondale church planning drive-through dinner Friday
IRONDALE -- The Irondale United Methodist Church located on Grant Street will host a drive-through fish dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
The menu is a fried fish dinner, baked potato, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and dessert, all for a donation to the church.
Organizers emphasize that this is a drive-through event only and patrons should stay in their cars to place an order.
U.M.W.A. Local 1304 to meet Saturday at Hopedale Legion
HOPEDALE -- The United Mine Workers of America Local No. 1304 will hold its regular meeting on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Hopedale American Legion Post 682, located at 48225 Rabbit Road. Because of COVID-19 precautions, masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed.
Brooke library helping readers to embrace humor
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library is helping readers embrace humor to reduce stress together during the next Big Library Read, the world's largest digital book club.
From April 5-19, readers can learn stress-managing techniques from psychologist and stand-up comedian Brian King's "The Art of Taking It Easy" e-book. Brooke County Public library card holders can borrow the ebook by visiting wvreads.overdrive.com or downloading the Libby app using any major computer or e-device.

Free community Easter Sunday dinner returning in Wellsburg
WELLSBURG -- The Wellsburg and Franklin United Methodist Churches are returning this year with the sponsorship of their annual community Easter Sunday dinner.
It will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wellsburg United Methodist Church, 1045 Charles St. (11th and Charles streets).
The free dinners are available to anyone who drives up or walks up to the church. Advance orders can be made by calling (304) 737-0488.
The meal includes creamed turkey over biscuits, vegetables, mashed potatoes and dessert.
Follansbee UMC hosting annual Easter Gala Saturday
FOLLANSBEE -- Follansbee United Methodist Church will host its annual Easter gala on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
Children are invited to travel from car to car (trunk-or-treat style) collecting Easter treats.
"We ask that you follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask," a church spokesperson explained.
Three Score Senior Club gathers for March meeting
WEIRTON -- Kathy McCarrick, president of the Three Score Senior Club, called the March meeting to order, expressing "how good it was to see everyone after such a long time."
Bob Shirer gave the opening prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing "God Bless America."
Following dinner, Dave and Shari Watkins provided musical entertainment.
Membership Chair Brenda Edwards reported there are 67 members in 2021 with one new member, Simone Edwards, joining at the meeting.
Winnie Kemp, sunshine chairman, reported on cards sent and acknowledged birthdays.
McCarrick, house chairman, used an Easter theme for decorations. Table plants went to Mary Ann DiFonzo, Bob Shirer, Josie Elliott, Lester Fridley, Lynn Bish, Marlene Runkel, Chuck Elliott, Vivian Weigel, Winnie Kemp and Ed Powell.
Reservation Chairman Vivian Weigel introduced guests, including Jackie Nixon, guest of Ed Powell; Jim Pryor, guest of Cindy Richards; and Randy and Simone Edwards, guest of Lee Edwards. Thirty-five were in attendance.
Additional prizes were awarded to Lester Fridley, Winnie Kemp, Larry Purks, Vivian Weigel, Kathy McCarrick, Simone Edwards and Marlene Runkel.
Bob Shirer gave the benediction.

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library is helping to promote Virtual Money Smart Week, an event established by the Economic Awareness Council, a nonprofit group, by distributing packets with guidelines for preparing a budget, attaining a good credit score and other information.

W.Va. Department of Motor Vehicles warns of scams
CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles is warning of recent text message phishing scams purporting to be from it.
Officials with the division said they will never ask for personal information through text and text messages are only sent after a customer initiates an appointment and only as a reminder of that appointment.
They have heard from multiple customers about a text message that reads, "DMV Sent You A New Notice. Read Now." and includes a link to click. They stress it didn't originate from them and should be ignored. For information, visit dmv.wv.gov.
