A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center, located at 705 Canton Road, Wintersville, is promoting Child Abuse Prevention Month. A Caring Place is the only Child Advocacy Center in Jefferson County, and its mission is to be the leading advocate in the healing and prevention of child abuse, according to Marisa Bortz, center director and advocate. The center offers forensic interviews and medical exams for children who have experienced sexual abuse and advocates for the best interests of the child victim and their caregivers. The center works in partnership with Job and Family Services, Children Services Division; local law enforcement; mental health professionals; medical professionals, including Dr. Stephen Mascio and sexual assault nurse examiners from Trinity Health System; and prosecution and victims assistance to support the child and their caregivers. All the services offered at the center are free and confidential. The center's number is (740) 266-3988. As a fundraiser, the center will hold a "Virtual Happy Hour" on Monday, beginning at 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center. Participants will learn how to make cocktails as part of a virtual cocktail class by Bennigan's. The event will include a variety of prize drawing opportunities. Tickets are $20 each and available through the link https://www.acaringplacecac.org/upcoming-events.
