Library connecting people with computers, Internet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is connecting area residents to affordable computers and Internet service with PCs for People, an organization that helps lower-income individuals and families.
PCs for People and Mobile Beacon formed a partnership, Bridging the Gap, that enables schools, libraries and nonprofits to help bring digital inclusion to their communities. PCs for People offers affordable, high-quality refurbished computers, and Mobile Beacon has unlimited, high-speed Internet for as low as $15 a month.
"PLSJ is excited to be partnering with PCs for People and their Bridging the Gap program," said library Assistant Director Katie Hildman. "If the past year has taught us one thing, it's that technology is more important than ever. Anything the library can do to help get these resources into the hands of our patrons easily and affordably is a worthwhile endeavor for us," Hildman added.
The library will facilitate computer and Internet purchases for eligible individuals. Computer products purchased will be shipped directly to the buyer's home. PCs for People will provide ongoing support and manage device troubleshooting.

Holmes and Watson return to the Weirton museum stage
WEIRTON -- The game's afoot once again when Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger's "Holmes and Watson Return" opens at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m.
"It's been more than a year since legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes and his biographer Dr. John Watson graced Cloak & Dagger On the Air with their intriguing tales of ne'er-do-wells and scalawags," says Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Director Pete Fernbaugh.
The two-hour production will be presented in the style of live radio drama and will feature brand-new adaptations of two classic stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. According to Fernbaugh, in Cloak & Dagger's adaptation of "The Five Orange Pips," Holmes races against time to save a young man's life from the brutal rage of a mysterious American organization known only by three letters: KKK. Then, "The Boscombe Valley Mystery" whisks Holmes and Watson away to the country where Inspector Lestrade is predictably baffled by the murder of a local landowner, although everyone suspects the victim's son is responsible -- everyone, except Sherlock Holmes.
"Cloak & Dagger On the Air: Holmes & Watson Return" is presented by the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Co. and stars John E. Reilly as Holmes and Robert Gaudio as Watson with a cast featuring Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, David Gaudio, Noah Hilton, Karissa Martin, Clare McDonald, Terri Perry and Brendan Sheehan. The score for the production is performed and arranged by classical pianist Roberta Fedoush.
A small, in-person audience of 20 people will be permitted. To reserve seats, call (304) 224-1909, and museum staff will confirm each reservation.
"For those who can't attend in person," explained Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center Executive Director Savannah Schroll Guz, "we also will be livestreaming the performance on the museum's Facebook page."
Admission to the event is donation based. "Both the museum and Cloak & Dagger are very grateful for your financial support," Guz said. "It is our joint goal to bring our community together through well-produced entertainment and educational programs."
For those attending in person, all COVID-19 protocols will be followed, and social distancing and masks will be required. A hand-sanitizing station will be located at the museum's entrance.
WAMCC is located at 3149 Main St., Weirton. Doors for Saturday's event will open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

CASA plans candlelight vigil at Historic Fort Steuben
STEUBENVILLE -- A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocates will hold its annual candlelight vigil to mark Child Abuse Awareness Month at 7:30 p.m. April 27 on the grounds of Historic Fort Steuben on Third Street.
Attendees are invited to sponsor luminaria, with proceeds going to the nonprofit group's efforts to represent the interests of children involved in abuse and neglect cases in Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson counties.
Since 2000, the group has aided 1,330 children and currently is serving 157 children.
One of many court-appointed special advocate programs throughout the U.S., it depends on volunteers who serve as advocates for the children. The vigil offers an opportunity to learn more, but information also can be obtained by calling (304) 737-4444.
Also, to raise awareness, a total of 525 blue pinwheels have been placed outside the Brooke County Public Library, its Follansbee branch and the Mary H. Weir Public Library.
Rhonda Stubbs, the group's executive director, said the number was chosen because there were 525 babies born at Weirton Medical Center last year, and CASA is concerned about all children.
