DAR Fort Steuben Chapter to dedicate bench at May meeting at Historic Fort Steuben
STEUBENVILLE -- The Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a meeting through Zoom on April 10 with various items discussed.
That included the announcement that the next meeting, which will be held May 8, beginning at noon, will be an in-person meeting at Historic Fort Steuben. It will involve the bench dedication outside, followed by lunch and the business meeting on the deck. All members are encouraged to attend.
The bench committee, reported Janet Rymer, will meet with Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla, at noon.
Regent Vickie Joseph called the Zoom meeting to order. Chaplain Nancy Courtney gave the invocation and later the benediction; past Regent JoAnn Morrison led in the Pledge of Allegiance; Parliamentarian Nancy Valles led the American's Creed; and members sang the national anthem.
Joseph introduced prospective members Ashley West and Stephanie Wendell and initiated new members Lori Livingston and Taylor Forman.
The president general's video message was played.
For the program, First Vice Regent Francine Hauldren introduced the speaker, Kathy Bentley, whose topic was "Finding Your Patriot."
During the business meeting, Recording Secretary Janet Rymer read the minutes of the last meeting, and Patti D'Aurora gave the treasurer's report.
It was noted that a JAC chair is needed.
May 14, 2022, has been designated as the tentative date for the 100th anniversary banquet.
Members were encouraged to give 2021-22 program ideas to Francine Hauldren.
The 130th Continental Congress will be a virtual event.
Under new business, it was announced that Continental Congress cut-outs are available for funding DAR Constitution Hall's renovations.
Members need to decide if there will be a June meeting for Continental Congress.
A state honor roll ribbon was given for participation.
Several grave-marking invitations have been received for May 16.
ADK Chapter is planning an in-person meeting for May
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Alpha Tau Chapter (WV) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators held its April meeting through Zoom.
Diane Bowers, president, called the meeting to order. The thought for the day, a reading from "Walking in Grace," was given by Treasurer Fran Jones.
Roll call was taken, and minutes were approved as read. Jones gave the financial report. Correspondence included information regarding the international convention and the selection of delegates. Committee reports also were given.
Member Ginger Greene discussed updates to the chapter bylaws, and Bowers reported that the altruistic report was submitted to the state altruistic chairman.
The chapter scholarship was presented to Andrew Coursin, son of member Amy Hannahs. A senior at Brooke High School, he plans to attend Fairmont State College and major in exercise physiology.
Delegates for the international convention will be Bowers and Velda Icard.
Jones won the door prize.
An in-person meeting is planned for May. Projects will include the auction for cystic fibrosis and donations for the Lighthouse.
Young Entrepreneurship Program plans sale Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Young Entrepreneurship Program at the Sycamore Youth and Community Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., will be hosting its second business sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Depending on weather conditions, the sale will be conducted on the green space across the street from the center. Otherwise, it will be held indoors.
In recent months, the students have devised a business plan and obtained pet supply items which they will be selling along with refreshments on Saturday. Crafts and knickknacks will be for sale, too.

Toronto citywide yard sale returning, set for May 7-9
TORONTO -- After taking a year off, the Toronto citywide yard sale is making its return and looking for participants.
The sale will be held from May 7-9, according to a flier of information from organizer Wendy Coghe. She can be contacted by text or by calling (740) 457-8009 to have a yard sale added to the master list.
The deadline to have an address listed is Wednesday. A flier of the map and the list of participants will be available on Wendy Coghe's Facebook page.
The sale is a rain-or-shine event, and as in the past, a yard sale doesn't have to be held the entire weekend. It can be one, two days or all three, according to the flier information.
