Congregation pays tribute to Delores Wiggins during service
STEUBENVILLE -- The congregation of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, Steubenville, held a service of celebration and praise in honor of Delores Wiggins on Sunday, Mother's Day.
The celebration included talks, musical selections, readings and solos with scriptures.
Special remarks were presented by Wiggins' famiy, including her two children, Oree and Bennie, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Juliete Hamilton chaired the event.
Wiggins has been involved in the community for 40 yers, including work as a civil rights leader.
Steubenville Saddle Club to kick off show season Sunday
RICHMOND -- The Steubenville Saddle Club is preparing to host its kickoff show of the 2021 season, which will be held Sunday at the club grounds located at 8675 state Route 152, Richmond.
The show begin at 9 a.m. with halter/showmanship classes followed by English/Western performance classes and ending with contest classes that will not begin before 3 p.m.
The other shows are scheduled for June 20, July 25 and Sept. 19. The May and July shows will be the money shows.
Shows are open to the public, and admission is free.
Concessions will be available with the club continuing the walk-up window service implemented in the wake of COVID-19 protocols. While that service will continue for patrons more comfortable with that option, the concession stand will be open with social distancing observed and a more customary menu returning with some exceptions.
Officers with Zach Murray to serve as president; Carl Green, vice president; Jadyn Nicholson, recording secretary; Cathy Hickle, treasurer; Marlene Lamantia, show secretary; and Robin Wedlake, point secretary.
The club's next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 1 at the club grounds.
Church plans bike rodeo for Toronto community children
TORONTO -- Crossroads -- North River Campus at 207 N. River Ave., Toronto, will host a CrossKids Bike Rodeo for children of the Toronto community on May 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The rain date is June 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The free event is for children up to age 12. Registration ends promptly at noon. The bike rodeo will help children get their bikes road-ready for summer; provide different obstacle courses to go through; and offer safety tips.
Training wheels are welcome. Bike rack parking will be available. Free bike helmets will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Food will be provided with gluten-free food offered and food from a peanut-free facility.

East Springfield Community Center dinner is Thursday
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Center will host its monthly fundraiser dinner on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The dinner menu will be baked steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $9. Patrons can get carryout dinners or dine inside. Orders can be called in to (740) 543-3700.
The monthly dinners are now being held on the second Thursday of the month instead of the first.
The center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.
Free block party happening Friday at Sycamore Center
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center, 301 N. Fourth St., will host a block party from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.
All students in grades kindergarten through 12 are welcome to attend the party that will feature a number of inflatable games, including a pirate ship, a Bouncy house and slide and a jousting arena. There will be gifts and free food.
"We also will be displaying the artwork of the children from this year," explained center Director Bobbyjon Bauman. The event is free of charge.
"We expect parents and guardians to attend with kindergarten through fourth-grade students and not drop them off unsupervised," Bauman noted in promotional material. "Our leaders will be working at the rides, cooking and serving food and looking after the display tables. It will take place in the green space near Sycamore on North Street."
Osiris Shrine car, motorcycle show scheduled for Sunday
WHEELING -- The sixth-annual Osiris Shrine Car and Motorcycle Show will be held Sunday at Monument Place, 91 Kruger St.
Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the event of rain, it will be moved to May 23.
There will be dash plaques for the first 100 entrants and more than 20 trophies awarded.
There will be a 50-50 drawing, door prizes, food for sale and music by disc jockey Spikeman.

Mothers can golf for free Sunday at Brooke Hills Park
WELLSBURG -- Because of last Sunday's inclement weather, Brooke Hills Park will be offering free golfing for mothers this Sunday.

Low-cost spay, neuter clinic is scheduled for July 10-11
STEUBENVILLE -- The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will hold its next low-cost spay and neuter clinic -- RASCAL -- on July 10 and 11 at the Steubenville American Legion Post on North Fifth Street, Steubenville.
RASCAL is an acronym for Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost.
"Interested pet owners must call (304) 374-4443 immediately as appointments are limited and required -- no walk-ins," a spokesperson explained.
Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.
Park to present story walk to a 'Wizard of Oz' theme
WELLSBURG -- In cooperation with LT's Road to Reading, Brooke Hills Park will present a series of walks inspired by children's stories.
"The Wizard of Oz" will be the theme for the first one, which will be held at 4 p.m. May 20 and include games and other activities.
