TORONTO -- The Rev. Jane Schockey is the new pastor of Hill Top United Presbyterian Church in Toronto.
Schockey was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA) at the end of December and installed as the pastor of Hill Top in mid-January.
A native of the Ohio Valley, having grown up in Bellaire, she pursued ministry following high school, obtaining her bachelor of arts degree in Bible and theology and began leading youth ministry at Calvary Presbyterian in St. Clairsville.
She went on to seminary to receive her master of divinity degree, returning to the Ohio Valley to lead Christian education at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wheeling, where she is employed part-time as its church administrator.
Schockey has been engaged in professional ministry for 25 years, mostly in the Ohio Valley, with children, youth and adults. "She loves telling others about how much God loves them and helping them along the way on their spiritual journey," a church spokesperson noted.
"Preaching in the Hill Top Presbyterian Church pulpit has been an absolute joy for Rev. Schockey as she has embraced this congregation, and she is looking forward to growing in relationship with the Toronto community and beyond," the spokesperson added.
Antique Power Show planned for May 29-30
NEW ATHENS -- The Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park grounds 43672 Stumptown Road, New Athens, (state Route 519 between U.S. Route 22 and New Athens) will host the first Appalachian Ohio Antique Power Show.
It will be held May 29 and 30 and feature antique tractors, hit and miss engines, oilfield engines, garden tractors and more.
All agriculture, industrial, military, logging, oil and gas, steam and transportation machinery and history are welcome. Antique tractors, hit and miss engines, oilfield engines, cars, trucks (semi and pickup) and garden tractors are all welcome.
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 29 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 30.

Extension webinar
about invasive insect
STEUBENVILLE -- Ohio State University Extension, Jefferson and Harrison counties, is planning a webinar at noon on May 17 on hemlock woolly adelgid.
Hemlock Woolly Adelgid is an invasive, aphid-like insect that attacks North American hemlocks. A population of HWA was identified in Smithfield earlier in 2021, causing concern about the distribution of HWA within Jefferson County and the total number of hemlock trees that might be infested.
The identification and management of the webinar covers how residents can identify HWA and the protocols implemented to control the invasive insect in Ohio. Register at go.osu.edu/2021jeffcohwa. Low-cost spay, neuter clinic is scheduled
STEUBENVILLE -- The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will hold its next low-cost spay and neuter clinic -- RASCAL -- on July 10 and 11 at the Steubenville American Legion Post on North Fifth Street, Steubenville.
RASCAL is an acronym for Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost.
"Interested pet owners must call (304) 374-4443 immediately as appointments are limited and required -- no walk-ins," a spokesperson explained.
Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.
