Cove Presbyterian presents scholarships

WEIRTON — Cove Presbyterian Church in Weirton presented its annual scholarships during the June 6 morning worship.

The Helen T. Hamill Scholarships are awarded in memory of the longtime Hancock County educator to students from all four area high schools in Hancock and Brooke counties.

Those receiving this scholarship were:

• Kamryn Bable, Brooke High School, daughter of Jenny and Erick Bable, who will attend West Virginia University to study elementary education;

• Jordan Dillon, Madonna High School, daughter of Tanya and Brian Dillon, who will attend Franciscan University of Steubenville to study biology;

• Blaire McUmar, Weir High School, daughter of Amber and Scott McUmar, who will attend WVU to study nursing; and

• Thomas Sessi, Madonna High School, son of Leslee Little and Anthony Sessi, who will attend Hiram College to study secondary education.

The Chad Pickens Scholarships are awarded in memory of Pickens, who died from a head injury while playing baseball for Weir High, and given to students from Cove Presbyterian Church.

Receiving those scholarships were:

• Sierra Huey, daughter of Beth and Bernard Huey who will attend Eastern Gateway Community College for dental assisting; and

• Tina Viakley, wife of Terry Viakley, who will continue her education for a master’s degree in organizational leadership at West Liberty University.
