Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union awards scholarships to four recipients

WEIRTON — Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union of Weirton recently awarded four $500 scholarships.

The recipients were graduating seniors Liza Koscevic, a Brooke High School student; Michaela Battista, a student at Weirton Madonna High School; Alexa Davis, a Weir High School student; and Mallory Kovalcik, an Oak Glen High School student.

The winners were chosen by lottery from a field of applicants.

Koscevic will be attending West Liberty University in the fall with plans to major in business and law in hopes of becoming a lawyer.

Battista, daughter of Michael and Diane Battista of Weirton, plans to attend West Virginia Northern Community College in the fall to major in education. Her future goal is to teach elementary students and become a coach.

Davis, the daughter of Kris Kuntupis and the late Jimmie Davis and the granddaughter of Barb Kuntupis and the late Lou Kuntupis, will be attending West Virginia University in the fall to major in criminology.

Kovalcik, daughter of Gary and Cindy Kovalcik, lettered in cheering for four years and was a member of the National Honor Society and prom committee. She plans on continuing her athletics and academics at Davis and Elkins as part of the Acro and Tumbling Team while majoring in business.

Genevieve Stokes, Ethan Robey, Casey Krofceck and Isabella Aperfine are alternates.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have been active credit union members for at least six months. The credit union serves public and parochial school employees and students in Brooke and Hancock counties.
