Creek Bed Walk scheduled
for Saturday at Beatty Park
STEUBENVILLE -- Beatty Park in Steubenville's South End will be the site of a free "Creek Bed Walk" set for Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
Participants should meet at the playground near the entrance. Restrooms are available.
"This walk is geared for children and families and anyone interested in getting in the 'crik' and learning about what, why and where," explained Flora VerStraten-Merrin of the Friends of Beatty Park Revitalization group. "Usually the creek is dry this time of year but wearing hiking shoes or boots is recommended because moss still exists and can be slippery in some areas. After the hike, we will have cold water and light refreshments at the shelterhouse."
John Boileigh will be the guest creek tour guide from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. "He is engaging and fun. The kids will enjoy -- old and young alike."
Beatty Park is located at 855 Lincoln Ave.
Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity
plans quarter auction Saturday
FOLLANSBEE -- The Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity's fifth-annual quarter auction will be held at the Hooverson Heights Fire Department on Saturday.
Doors will open at noon, and the auction starts at 1 p.m. There also will be a drawing and concessions available. Through the years the fraternity has supported numerous educational and civic activities for the Follansbee community. A portion of proceeds from the auction will go to the Follansbee Community Days Committee.
Brooke Library to screen
drama 'Percy Vs. Goliath'
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-13 rated film, "Percy Vs. Goliath," at noon on Friday. The film stars Christopher Walken as a Canadian farmer who battles a corporation whose practices are harming his crops.

Annual chicken blasts are
continuing on Wednesdays
WEIRTON -- The Serbian Men's Club is continuing to hold its "chicken blasts" on Wednesdays at the Serbian Picnic Grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church.
They are being held every Wednesday through the end of August. Orders for the hearth-cooked, slow-roasted poultry may be called in from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to (304) 748-9866 the day of the sales. Orders must be picked up by 6 p.m. at the site located off Kings Creek Road. The price remains steady at $8.
