Mingo Knights to host
event to meet CCHS coach
MINGO JUNCTION -- The Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 will host an event open to the public to meet Catholic Central High School head football coach Tony Agresta.
It will be held on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Mingo Knights of Columbus small hall on 117 Legion Drive, Mingo Junction. The phone number is (740) 535-8037.
There will be refreshments and door prizes.
SHS Class of 1959 schedules
next meeting for Aug. 18
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville High School Class of 1959 met in July with 17 in attendance.
A special welcome was extended to B.J. (Moore) Fairhurst, who traveled from Wooster to attend. Norina Eroshevich led the group in prayer for all there and for those unable to attend.
Pete Barren provided information on the All-Class Reunion scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Steubenville High School.
The next luncheon will be held Aug. 18 at Zalenski's in Wintersville. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Norina Eroshevich at (740) 219-2234 or Donna Snyder at (740) 314-5248 by Friday. All are welcome.

Church peach festival detailed
WEIRTON -- St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive in Weirton is having its 58th-annual Peach Festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be a bake sale, vendors, a basket drawing and "our famous" peach shortcake and peach pies, according to an event spokesperson.
The lunch orders will be pick-up orders only, and there will be no seating in the dining hall.
The menu this year is roast beef, pulled pork and meatball sandwiches for $6; french fries and haluski for $4; all drinks, $1; a combo of a hot dog, bag of chips and a drink for $3; peach shortcake, $7; and peach pies, $13.
Advance orders may be made by calling the church at (304) 723-4120. Callers are asked to not leave their order information on the answering machine but to instead leave their name and phone number, and someone will return the call.

for Aug. 18 canning workshop
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County Community Educational Outreach Service will be holding the second "From Garden to Pantry -- Preserving What You Grow" workshop on Aug. 18 at Camp Aura, beginning at 10 a.m.
If enough interest is shown, a second evening, class will be offered on Aug. 19, beginning at 4 p.m.
This workshop will cover pressure and water bath canning. Anyone interested in attending this workshop needs to contact the WVU Hancock County Extension office by today at (304) 564-3805.
Because space is limited, a paid RSVP is required. Cost of the workshop is $15 and includes all materials as well as a working lunch.

MINGO JUNCTION -- The annual August Goulds community picnic that would have been held Aug. 14 at the Lower GKL Wildlife Club, Goulds Road, Mingo Junction, has been postponed until further notice.

Summit Art Gallery grand
pening rescheduled Aug. 17
WEIRTON -- The Summit Art Gallery's grand opening has been rescheduled for Aug. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the new location in the top of West Virginia CVB building at 3539 Main St., Weirton.
The Top of West Virginia Arts council will host the event, and artist members will be on hand to discuss and sell their artwork.
At this new location the arts council can hold paint and sips for adults, paint parties for children, a classroom is available for art lessons, the children's permanent art display area has been set up and a dedicated space for guest art shows is available, according to a spokesperson.
Light refreshments will be served, and visitors are encouraged to walk the gallery and to talk with council artists or members. Artists are at liberty to check out the gallery for a show.
The arts council welcomes new members and new artists to showcase. "If you attend, you may win an original work of art," a spokesperson noted. The Top of West Virginia Arts Council meets on the first Thursday of the month at 5 p.m.
