New Cumberland beginning military banners program
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The city of New Cumberland has begun a military banners program to honor the men and women of their town who have served or are currently serving in all branches of the military.
The one-time cost to purchase a banner for a service man or woman is $125, which includes a 24-inch-by-36-inch, two-sided banner and the necessary hardware to install the banner on a telephone pole somewhere in town.
Interested relatives of veterans and current military are asked to pick up a form and fill it out if they would like to purchase one. The forms can be picked up at the New Cumberland City Building, the Swaney Memorial Library and the New Cumberland VFW.
For anyone who lives out of town and can't pick up a form, one can be mailed by sending a request to City of New Cumberland/Military Banners, P.O. Box 505, New Cumberland, WV 26047.
"The banner is a fitting way to honor all those who have served and to recognize their sacrifice," explained George Hines, program spokesman. On the face of the banner will be the service person's name, rank, years served and any commendations that he or she might have earned. To purchase a banner, a copy of the service person's DD-214 form must be included. "If you don't have one, they are often available from the Hancock County Court House," Hines noted. Reunion Aug. 21
WINTERSVILLE -- The Wintersville High School All-School Reunion, traditionally held on the third Saturday in August, is scheduled for noon on Aug. 21 at Aladdin Land, located at 6355 township Road 166, Bloomingdale.
Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. Table service, soft drinks and bottled water will be provided. Donations will be accepted.
The WHS Class of 1970 and Class of 1971, celebrating 51 and 50 years out of school, respectively, will be honored.

Back-to-School Bash Saturday
in Toronto
TORONTO -- Riverview United Methodist Church at 105 N. River Ave., Toronto, is hosting a Back-to-School Bash for students in the Toronto City and Edison Local school districts.
It will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Refreshments, games and music will be available. Well-stocked backpacks will be distributed to elementary and high school students. The distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis.

for Little Miss
Lion accepted
TORONTO -- The Toronto Lions Club will accept applications for Little Miss Lion 2021 until Aug. 24.
The contest is open to girls, ages 8-12, attending Toronto City Schools or living in Toronto while attending a private school.
Finalists will be selected Aug. 26 and crowned on Sept. 4 during the Toronto Festival of Arts. Application forms are available from any Toronto Lion or by e-mailing foss7@yahoo.com.

dinner Sunday at Quinn AME
STEUBENVILLE -- A takeout spaghetti dinner will be available at Quinn Memorial AME Church, 515 North St., Steubenville, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
A dinner is $12 and includes spaghetti, salad, rolls, and dessert. Pop or water is $1. A dinner can be ordered by calling (740) 424-8148. Walk-ins also are welcome.
Patrons are reminded to choose a free giveaway item to go along with a dinner. "You also may take home new to gently used clothing and shoes for children and adults," a spokesperson said.
Library to screen 'My Life' Aug. 20
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show the PG-13 rated film, "My Life," at noon Aug. 20.
