West Virginia Fidelis Gamma members have busy meeting
WEIRTON -- The West Virginia Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers' Organization met Aug. 5 at Garden Grill Steakhouse in Weirton.
President Diane Higgins called the meeting to order. Secretary Ruth Fuller read the minutes from the June meeting, which were approved. Treasurer Carolyn Allison gave the financial report. Allison shared the Thought for the Day with a reading from the Mayo Clinic titled "Stress Management -- Stress Relief from Laughter." She read a story called "Ill-Fitting Boots," which focused on the importance of laughter,
Higgins acknowledged August birthdays.
Under correspondence, Allison shared a report from Jill Stemple, state chairperson for the "Longest Day." Stemple presented the total monetary donations for the Alzheimer's Project and congratulated the chapter and the state for their support.
Under unfinished business, discussion was held on a monthly meeting place for the chapter. Hostesses for May and December are needed.
Higgins reported that the International Alpha Delta Kappa theme is "Share the Love." West Virginia Corresponding Secretary Peggy Johnson collected items and articles to assemble a 2021 virtual memory of the 32nd International Convention -- a trip down memory lane. It was presented to state President Pat Hardin. It was an unusual convention and an unusual year to survive, it was noted.
Higgins presented the officers for the international positions: WV International President Mollie Accosta (2021-23); WV International Vice President for Southeast Region, Ginger Greene (2021-23); and Immediate Past International President Judy Ganzert (2019-21.)
Higgins and Janet Benzo planned to attend the West Virginia Leadership Conference on Aug. 7 at the Robert H. Mollohan Conference Center in Fairmont
The next meeting will be held Sept 2 at 11:30. a.m. The hostesses will be Liz Pugh, Elaine McClung and Anne Ford.
Brooke Book Club to discuss 'Never Caught' on Aug. 26
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library Book Club will meet virtually and in person at 5 p.m. Aug. 26 to discuss Erica Armstrong's "Never Caught: The Washingtons' Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave, Ona Judge."

Spay-neuter clinic on Oct. 9-10
is accepting appointments
STEUBENVILLE -- The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will host the next Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost on Oct. 9 and 10 at the American Legion Post 33 at the Steubenville American Legion Post 33, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
Any interested pet owners should call (304) 374-4443 as appointments are limited and required. No walk-ins will be accepted. Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.
Railroaders invited to attend monthly breakfast meetings
CHESTER -- Retired and still working railroaders from the area are invited to a social and informational meeting that will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at EJ's Restaurant, located at 807 Carolina Ave.
All retired and current railroaders and crafts are welcome to attend the get-togethers that are held on the third Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at EJ's.

Cruise-in Sept. 4 to benefit
fire, police departments
AMSTERDAM -- The first Boys from the Blocks cruise-in in memory of John "Tizzy" Tiziani will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Rogers Park in Amsterdam.
There is a $5 care entry fee. The first 75 entrees get a dash plaque. There will be food trucks, a DJ, vendors, a Chinese auction, door prizes and a 50-50 drawing. All proceeds go to the Amsterdam Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department.
Rain date is Oct. 2 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
