planning golf fundraiser

for Sept. 19 at Spring Hills

STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Rotary Club is organizing a fundraiser golf scramble for Sept. 19 at Spring Hills Golf Course in East Springfield, beginning at 9 a.m.

It will be a shotgun start unless COVID-19 restrictions are put in place again, according to a promotional flyer.

The cost is $300 per team for the four-person scramble. It is $75 for an individual who will be assigned to a team.

The Rotary Club is organizing the event with major sponsorship by the IBEW Local 246, Steubenville Electrical LMCC.

Sponsor registrations available include: $500, "the 19th hole," major sponsor on flier and T-shirt; $300, the grand prize, major sponsor on flier and T-shirt; $100, T-shirt sponsor, single line company or individual name for the first 20 paid sponsorships; and $50, drawing prize sponsor.

Team registrations and sponsorships can be mailed with payments to Steubenville Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 1485, Steubenville OH 43952. Checks should be made payable to the Steubenville Rotary Foundation.

Proceeds benefit the Steubenville Rotary Foundation, helping local organizations and youth programs.

Bergholz VFD hosting three weekend fundraiser meals

BERGHOLZ -- The Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department is organizing three weekend fundraisers across two days.

On Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a spaghetti dinner at the fire department, which is located at 724 Monroe St., Bergholz. The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, drink and dessert. The cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children under age 10.

There will be a 50-50 drawing.

Delivery will be available within 5 miles. Call (740) 768-3003 for orders.

The fire department will host a breakfast and lunch on Sunday.

Breakfast will be from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. with pancakes, sausages, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, doughnuts, juice and coffee served.

Lunch will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with baked chicken, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner rolls, salad, drinks and desserts.

Meal costs are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children under age 10.

"Please come out and support your local fire department," a spokesperson said.

Annual chicken blasts are

nearing the summer run

WEIRTON -- The Serbian Men's Club is continuing to hold its "chicken blasts" on Wednesdays at the Serbian Picnic Grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, but only two are left.

They are being held every Wednesday through the end of August. Orders for the hearth-cooked, slow-roasted poultry may be called in from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to (304) 748-9866 the day of the sales. Orders must be picked up by 6 p.m. at the site located off Kings Creek Road. The price remains steady at $8.

Annual Friends of Madonna picnic scheduled for Saturday

WEIRTON -- The annual Friends of Madonna picnic will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds.

There will be food, a DJ, opportunities to support Madonna students and Meet the Team.

The Meet the Team schedule is: Volleyball, 6:30 p.m.; girls soccer, 7 p.m.; and football and cheerleaders, 7:30 p.m.

"Please join us for a fun evening before the school year begins," a spokesperson noted.

Bureau meeting includes

news about milk, place mats

SMITHFIELD -- Jeanne Roberts conducted the Jefferson County Farm Bureau meeting held recently at the Smithfield fair grounds.

It was noted that Heidi Cline had talked with United Dairy about supplying pints of white, chocolate and strawberry milk in coin machines at the fair. The cost will be $2 for a pint.

They will be available at the dairy barns and at the Farm Bureau booth in the main area where there will be features on different breeds of cows.

Place mats with designs of different breeds of cows will be used for lunches at the fair.

Rural King is offering free flower and vegetable seeds.

A daily prize will be given to the winner of a drawing after signing up at the stand.
