Cabbage roll, pierogi sale
under way at Weirton church
WEIRTON -- A frozen-uncooked cabbage roll and cheese/potato pierogi sale sponsored by members of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church is under way and will continue while supplies last.
The cost for six cabbage rolls is $20, and a dozen pierogis are $9. Call (304) 479-0196 to place orders and arrange pickup at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church Hall, 604 Colliers Way, across from Weirton Medical Center.
'Astrophotography' theme
for camera club competition
WINTERSVILLE -- The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club has announced the August competition winners to the theme "Astrophotography."
The theme category winners were: First place, Michelle Stevens; second place, John Hanish; and third place, Barb Momyer. The open category winners were: First place, Michelle Stevens; second place, John Hanish, and third place, Deb Snider. The special effects category winners were: First place, Karen Felix; second place, Deb Snider; and third place, Michelle Stevens.
The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club welcomes anyone who has an interest in photography. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville.

Ohio Literary Trail part of
library's various offerings
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced a variety of programs and activities offered at its various locations as well as online.
"Discover the Ohio Literary Trail" is an online program, for example, that is available during the month of September on the library's YouTube channel, PLSJ.
"Join us for a tour of the Ohio Literary Trail from the comfort of your home and discover Ohio's rich literary heritage through more than 70 sites," Jennifer Cesta, the library's public relations coodinator, encouraged.
The trail shines a spotlight on Ohio's literary treasures and the state's role in shaping culture and literature worldwide. Participants will discover historic homes, museums, library collections and historical markers honoring great authors, poets and influencers of the literary landscape. This presentation will include highlights from around the state. "Whether you are an armchair traveler or a road warrior, you will discover gems for explorers of all ages," Cesta commented.

78 Funseekers gather poolside for luau meeting at Undo's
WEIRTON -- Seventy-eight members of Funseekers gathered poolside on Aug. 4 at Undo's in Weirton for the luau meeting featuring tropical decorations, floral leis and an expanded menu.
President Judi Gaynor welcomed returning members and several guests. August birthdays and anniversaries were noted. Joann Bugin offered a blessing and led in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of "God Bless America."
Following dinner, the De'Ja'Vu Band provided classic sounds and dance music of the '50s, '60s and '70s as entertainment.
The brief business meeting included the nomination and election of officers to serve from September through August 2023. Nominated and elected were: President, Judi Gaynor; vice president, Larry Bauer; treasurer, Charlotte Christian; and secretary, Mary Beth Bauer. Regina Truax will serve as entertainment chair, Barbara Losey will coordinate menus and Karen Krause will be caller chair. Karen Krause for Ohio and Joann Bugin for West Virginia will continue as sunshine contacts.
Membership dues for 2021-22 should be paid at the September meeting, and must be paid prior to the October meeting, members were reminded. Dues remain at $10 per member.
First Choice America donated a special gift basket which was won by Michele Fabro.
Fruit basket door prizes were presented by Carl and Regina Truax to Lola Swanagan, Marlene Dunn, Bill Shipe, Carol Wisnieski, Joyce Dobbs, Paula Krensavage, Larry Bauer, Gene Viola, Lester Stuckmeyer, Barb Purks and Mary Margaret Klepadlo.
The 50/50 drawing was shared by two winners, Karen Krause and George Williams.
Fliers for trips and excursions were available and for 2021 featured: Sept. 12-16, Virginia Beach; Oct. 1, Applefest in Franklin, Pa.; Oct. 8, Meadows Casino; Oct. 13-15, Lancaster Sight and Sounds Theater; Oct. 18-22, Nashville show trip; Oct. 30, Doo wop, Bobby Rydell, Capitol Theater, Wheeling; and Dec. 2, Oglebay Festival of Lights dinner show.
Trips for 2022 include: Feb. 9, "Pretty Woman" at the Benedum, Pittsburgh; March 22, "Hamilton" at the Benedum; Aug. 29-Sept. 3, Myrtle Beach; and Sept. 20-22, Senaca Niagara.

Master harpist at Saturday
Sycamore concert series
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center continues its summer concert series at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, welcoming Virginia Miller, master harpist and 2019 Valley's Got Talent instrumentalist winner, along with Faith Sirilla, who will be joining her on the violin and with vocals.
"Other talented guest artists will join them as well," noted Bobbyjon Bauman, center director.
The concert is free of charge and will take place at the Cafe Sy Coffee Shop at the Sycamore Youth Center at 301 N. Fourth St. Steubenville.
Cafe Sy in the center performance area will be open during the time of the concert and will feature high-quality coffee and tea as well as baked goods, all for donate-what-you-can-afford prices.
