Retirees of Steubenville City Schools set to meet Sept. 9
STEUBENVILLE -- Eighteen retirees of Steubenville City Schools met Aug. 12 for lunch at the Ville Restaurant in Steubenville.
Cards were signed, and a collection was initiated for the group's Christmas charity for needy adults. The effort will continue for the next four months.
Those who are unable to attend the lunches can still contribute by contacting Linda Holub or Becky Bryan.
The next lunch will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at at Margaret's in Toronto. "If you don't get a call, you can just show up at that time," a spokesperson noted.
Golf scramble to benefit
Hancock Special Olympics
NEW CUMBERLAND -- A golf scramble to benefit Hancock County Special Olympics will be held Saturday at Woodview Golf Course.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $100 per player and $400 per team, which includes a light lunch and a full dinner. There will be a 50-50 drawing and Chinese auction.

Doc Rowe and family to do worship concert at church
WINTERSVILLE -- Winterville Church of the Nazarene, located at 377 Longvue Drive, Wintersville, will be hosting a worship concert featuring Doc Rowe and family.
It will be held t 10:30 a.m. Sept. 26 and be outdoors, weather permitting. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
A love offering will be received. "Everyone is invited," a church spokesperson noted.
Steubenville Woman's Club
scheduled to meet Thursday
STEUBENVILLE -- The OFWC, GFWC Woman's Club of Steubenville will resume meetings, launching the new club season on Thursday.
The noon luncheon and program will be in the basement meeting room in Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville.
There will be musical entertainment by a student from Steubenville High School. The program presenter will Trudy Wilson, manager, senior adult services, Prime Time Office on Aging at Trinity Health System.
The club board of directors will meet at 11 a.m. prior to the luncheon.
Carlotta Jordan, president, will preside.
Club dues are $40 and may be paid at the September meeting or mailed to Susanne Escobar, 397 Lawson Ave., Steubenville.
Steubenville High School Class of 1952 plans reunion Sept. 25
STEUBENVILLE -- Members of Steubenville High School's Class of 1952 will meet for their 69-year reunion on Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. at Hellenic Hall at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 300 S. Fourth St., Steubenville.
Party for Sam Fornsaglio
Saturday at Aladdin Land
BLOOMINGDALE -- Aladdin Land at 6355 township Road, Blomingdale, will be the setting Saturday for a pizza party in honor of former area resident and coach Sam Fornsaglio and his wife, Donna., who reside in Florida
The event is being organized by football players who would have been coached by Fornsaglio at Wintersville and Indian Creek high schools from 1983 through the 1900s.
It will start at 6:30 p.m. Those planning to attend should RSVP to A.J. Abrams at aabrams7@comcast.net.
Friends and those who served as assistant coaches are welcome to attend as well.
"Donna and I haven't been in the area for 10 years and are excited about coming back to see as many people as we can," Fornsaglio, 77, said in a recent phone interview.
The party will include a roast conducted by Wintersville High School graduate "Tracie Jayne" Mitchell, a stand-up comedian who lives in New York City.
