East Springfield Community Center dinner set for Thursday
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Community Center will host its monthly fundraiser dinner on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The dinner menu will be cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $9. Patrons can get carryout dinners or dine inside. Orders can be called in to (740) 543-3700.
The monthly dinners are held on the second Thursday of the month.
The center is located on county Road 39 next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department
Tower of Power Church is
hosting autumn fest Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- Tower of Power Church at 1210 Maryland Ave., Steubenville, will be hosting an autumn fest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Festivities include hayrides, food trucks, vendors, pumpkin painting, face painting, hot apple cider, cotton candy and inflatables.
"Everyone is welcome to come celebrate autumn," a spokesperson noted.

Just BeClause plans annual golf outing for Sept. 26
BERGHOLZ -- The 10th-annual Just BeClause golf outing will be held Sept. 26 at the Carroll Meadows Golf Course, located at 1130 Meadowbrook Land NE, Carrollton.
There is a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost is $75 per person, and the entry fee includes green fees and cart and a steak dinner. There will be prizes, a 50-50 drawing and a $1,000 grand prize.

Railroaders invited to attend monthly breakfast meetings
CHESTER -- Retired and still working railroaders from the area are invited to a social and informational meeting that will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 16 at EJ's Restaurant, located at 807 Carolina Ave.
All retired and current railroaders and crafts are welcome to attend the get-togethers that are held on the third Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at EJ's. For information, call Rocco at (330) 853-3045.
Mingo Knights of Columbus
pasta dinners are returning
MINGO JUNCTION -- Pasta dinner fundraisers are returning in the fall to the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall, located on Legion Drive.
They will be held on the second Sunday of the month for September, October and November.
The first one Sunday, which is all you can eat, is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Patrons can dine in or get carryout but they must call ahead to (740) 535-8037.
The dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12.
The dinners are open to the public.
Steubenville Kiwanis taking orders for roses until Sept. 17
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Kiwanis Club members are continuing to take orders for roses through Sept. 17.
The rose sale constitutes the service organization's largest fundraiser and has been a longtime tradition of the club that meets on Tuesdays at noon for a business and luncheon meeting at the Sycamore Center, 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville.
The price of a dozen long-stemmed, boxed roses is $20, and orders can be placed through any Kiwanis member or by contacting Tom Timmons, treasurer, at (740) 314-9574 or by e-mail to timmons@wesbanco.com.
The sale has been an annual tradition of more than 50 years for the club. It uses the proceeds to fund a number of its youth and community projects, including a Christmas party for first-graders at East Elementary School in Steubenville.
Local deliveries will be made Sept. 21 to the Steubenville, Wintersville, Mingo Junction, Toronto, Richmond, Brilliant, Weirton, Follansbee and Wellsburg areas. The sale continues to be limited to local sales only, with no mailouts as done in past years.
A variety of colors are available but can't be guaranteed.
"We never know exactly what we're going to get from the distributor, but under normal circumstances we have red, yellow, a lot of pinks and some white but we never know how many of what colors we're going to get," Timmons explained.
Sycamore Youth Center fall class schedule includes variety
STEUBENVILLE -- The Sycamore Youth Center's fall class schedule features 50 free classes for students in grades kindergarten through 12.
The classes run Oct. 4 through Dec. 10.
Some of the classes include sewing; cooking; drama -- "The Magician's Nephew" will be performed this year; Sycamore Classical Choir -- a revival of the Canticle Singers Choir that will sing sacred and classical music; free instrumental music lessons; tutoring; computers; martial arts; hip hop dance; and home repair, life skills and financial literacy.

Spay-neuter clinic on Oct. 9-10 still accepting appointments
STEUBENVILLE -- The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will host the next Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost on Oct. 9 and 10 at the American Legion Post 33 at the Steubenville American Legion Post 33, located at 808 N. Fifth St.
Any interested pet owners should call (304) 374-4443 as appointments are limited and required. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents.
