Historical society postpones

Sept. 15 dinner meeting

STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Historical Association officials announced Wednesday that the annual membership meeting and banquet that was scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Steubenville Country Club has been postponed until a later date.

Dr. Paul A. Wright, a Steubenville native and cardiologist who worked with Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India, during the last five years of her life through her Missionaries of Charity organization, was to have been the guest speaker.

The event has been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.

Unionport Masonic Hall site of

chicken, steak dinner Saturday

UNIONPORT — The Unionport Masonic Hall on county Road 39, Unionport, will be the site of a fundraiser chicken and steak barbecue on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The chicken dinner is $8, and the steak dinner is $12. The dinner includes choice of chicken or a steak, a baked potrato, coleslaw, cake and ice cream.

Carryout will be available.

Donations of toys are being

accepted by Toronto church

TORONTO — Donations of new or gently used toys to distribute to boys and girls in Toronto to make their Christmas brighter are being accepted by the Crossroads, North River Campus at 207 N. River Ave., Toronto.

Monetary donations are welcome, too.

Toys accepted will be for ages newborn to 13. School-aged children must go to Toronto schools. Children not old enough for school must live in Toronto.

The distribution dates will be Dec. 11 and 12 at the church.

Toy drop-offs are at Crossroads-North River Campus or any participating businesses and churches inToronto. “Look for the green sign,” a spokesperson noted.

Monetary donations can be sent to P.O. Box 364, Toronto, OH 43964 with checks made payable to Toys 4 Toronto.

Tri-State Winemakers Club

making Christmas party plans

STEUBENVILLE — The Tri-State Winemakers Club members held their annual picnic at the Weirton Marina on Aug. 12 with 21 members braving pop-up thunderstorms to attend.

Plans were discussed for the Christmas party to be held Dec. 11.

The group’s next meeting is tonight with Jim and Mickey Cope hosting.

The club meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville.

Wellsburg Applefest seeks

participants for pageant

WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Applefest Princess and Queen Pageant is looking for area girls and boys to be a part of it.

Area girls ages 0 to 18 and boys ages 0 to 6 are encouraged to participate.

The 43rd Applefest Pageant will be held Sept. 26 at the Wellsburg Moose Lodge, starting at 11 a.m. There are numerous categories and special events.

Fall gospel meeting schedule

WEIRTON — The Weirton Heights Church of Christ fall gospel meeting is on the calendar for Oct. 17-22.

The featured speaker is Steve Stevens, whose sermon topics for the dates will be:

– Oct. 17: Bible study, 9:30 a.m., “Champions For God;” Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., “Shammah, The Man Who Would Not Flee;” and Sunday worship, 6:30 p.m., “Three Great Discoveries in Life;”

– Oct. 18: 7 p.m., “Almost Persuaded;”

– Oct. 19: 7 p.m., “Write It Down For A Memorial;”

– Oct. 20: 7 p.m.: “Journey Into A Far Country;”

– Oct. 21: 7 p.m., “Fruit or Firewood;” and

– Oct. 22: 7 p.m., “Four Truths about The Judgement Day.”

Brooke Library has crocheting club and coloring group

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library’s Crocheting Club will meet at noon Sept. 15.

The group is open to adults at all levels of experience, who are encouraged to bring their own supplies and projects. Members are happy to assist newcomers.

Adults also are invited to take part in coloring, an activity embraced by many in recent years as a way to relax, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the library.
