Ron Retzer Trio entertains Four Seasons Seniors members

WEIRTON — The Four Seasons Seniors held their September meeting on Sept. 15 at Undo’s with President Gene Viola presiding.

Tony LaRosa gave the opening and closing prayers. The group recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang “God Bless America.”

After dinner, members were entertained by the Ron Retzer Trio.

Committee reports were read. A birthday and anniversary were acknowledged. A report was given on cards sent.

Sandy Corrigan won the drawing for a fall wreath donated by Margaret Chapman. The 50/50 drawing was won by Stephana Iannetti. Undo’s gift cards went to Carolyn Shaffer and Stephana Iannetti. Other prize winners were Terry Mamula, Norma Yoho, Larry Purks, Josie Cekinovich and Nancy Smurda.

The next meeting will be held Oct. 20. The menu will be cheese lasagna or roast pork with Italian potatoes, green beans and brownies.

WVNCC offering free exercise class on Zoom

WEIRTON — West Virginia Northern Community College is offering a free exercise class on Zoom.

The class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning Wednesday and running through Dec. 8.

This is a low-impact aerobics class with an emphasis on cardiorespiratory endurance, strength improvement and flexibility with no chair or floor work, usually to music that’s 128-140 bpm. Every student can adapt the exercises to his or her own fitness level. A link will be sent upon registration. Enrollment is continuous. Auxiliary to do Thanksgiving basket for event drawing

WEIRTON — President Shirley Brecht opened the Sept. 13 meeting of the Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary with prayer by Chaplain Mary Ann Smith and acknowledgment of those who are ill.

Brecht led the members in the pledge to the flag. Vice President Darlene Kemp conducted roll call.

Secretary Marcy Spano read the minutes from the August meeting, which were approved as read. Brecht gave the treasurer’s report, which also was approved as read.

The women will prepare a Thanksgiving basket for a drawing at the military ball scheduled for Nov. 13. The cocktail and social time begins at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 a person at the door.There will be a drawing item from the Tri-State Marine Corps Club as well. December marks the 30th anniversary. A cake and celebration were approved.

The club will fill stockings for veterans in Geriatric Center and Woodland Hills.

Brecht won the 50-50 drawing. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the VFW hall. The refreshments will be by the auxiliary.

Grandparents Day observed with special church service

BRILLIANT — The House of Prayer Church, 2535 township Road 163, Rayland, held a special service for Grandparents Day with the winners receiving special gifts.

They were: Oldest grandfather, Sam Firm Sr.; oldest grandmother, Dotty Mayle; youngest grandfather, Stew Moore; youngest grandmother, Cathy Cline; grandfather of the year, the Rev. Jack Jackson; and grandmother of the year, Linda Jackson.

Book club to meet

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 30 to discuss Brendan Kiely and Jason Reynolds’ “All American Boys.”
