Beech Bottom Fall Festival
scheduled for Saturday
BEECH BOTTOM -- The Beech Bottom Fall Festival will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Third Street Playground.
Sponsored by village officials, the event will include craft and food vendors, music by a disc jockey from noon to 2 p.m. and the band Fallen Under from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., a corn hole tournament and cake walk for adults and hayrides to a pumpkin patch where children may select a pumpkin. There will be inflatable attractions for children, face painting and a caricature artist.
Steubenville City Schools
retirees to meet on Oct. 14
STEUBENVILLE -- Retirees of Steubenville City Schools met Sept. 9 for lunch at Margaret's in Toronto.
Cards were signed to send to ill members. Money continues to be collected for the group's Christmas charity for needy adults. The next lunch will be held Oct. 14 at Dee Jay's in Weirton. "If you do not receive a call, just show up at 12:30 p.m.," a group spokesperson noted.
'The Baker's Dozen' project welcomes public support
WEIRTON -- The Gift of Years Group at the First Christian Church in Weirton, co-chaired by Paula Brown and Janet Ford, welcomes public participation in its Christmas project this year called "The Baker's Dozen."
"Our military sacrifices so much in their service around the world that we would like to give them a little extra this year," explained Ford. "The church will be supplementing the Girls Yellow Ribbon Project of Elwood City, Pa., which sends needed supplies to our troops."
From its list of supplies for the military, the group chose 13 items -- most needed, batteries (AA and D), beef jerky, powdered drink mix, packs of snacks/crackers/cookies, two-ply toilet paper and energy/protein/granola bars with additional acceptable items being white socks, foot powder, waterless hand sanitizer, chap stick, sun screen, saline nasal spray and baby wipes.
Items will be collected through Oct. 25 and dropped off at the First Christian Church (please ring doorbell) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any donations, large or small, would be appreciated. Questions can be directed to Pastor Mark Mayer at (304) 797-7300.
