Woman's Club seeks support for Saturday drive-through
WINTERSVILLE -- As a November service project, the GFWC Wintersville Woman's Club is looking to area residents to help make a drive-through collection effort Saturday a success.
President Pat Ketzell noted support and donations from the community at large would be appreciated for the drive-through that will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wintersville United Methodist Church at 702 Main St. The drive-through will be in the parking lot on the Fernwood Road side.
The effort will involve collections of the following:
– Fleece blankets for dialysis patients;
– Nonperishable food items, teen bags and gifts for children for distribution by Wintersville Good Neighbors; and
– Donations of gently used clothing, small containers of personal hygiene items and suitcases for the ALIVE Shelter that helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Tri-State Winemakers Club plans final meetings for 2021
STEUBENVILLE -- The Tri-State Winemakers Club met Oct. 14, when it learned that two of its members, Jon and Carol Patton, had volunteered at Black Sheep Winery to help bring in this year's grape harvest.
They both enjoyed picking grapes and the camaraderie with other wine enthusiasts. For their efforts, they were provided with lunch and a bottle of wine, it was noted at the meeting.
Due to COVID, the club decided it was best to withdraw its participation in the VFW wine-tasting fundraiser.
Postcards were sent to all current members, inviting them to the special November and December meetings.
The club is looking at opportunities for future wine tastings and member outings.
The monthly wine-making discussion focused on the benefits of using gravity feed to filter wine prior to bottling.
The November meeting will be hosted by Gino Guglielmo at his home, and the holiday party is scheduled for Dec. 10 at Giovanni's in Weirton.
Regular meetings will resume in January on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville.

Holmes and Watson return to the WAMCC stage on Saturday
WEIRTON -- Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes will return to the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday for Cloak & Dagger On the Air: Holmes & Watson in "Twisted Lips and Blue Carbuncles."
"Over the past few seasons, we've been working our way through Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first collection of Sherlock Holmes cases, 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,'" explained Pete Fernbaugh, executive producer and head writer of Cloak & Dagger On the Air. "Audiences love these adaptations and love spending time with Holmes and Watson, as embodied by John E. Reilly and Robert J. Gaudio."
For Saturday's production, Fernbaugh has developed new adaptations of "The Man with the Twisted Lip" and "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle."
"It's easy to think that detective stories and murder go hand-in-hand, but in these cases, murder isn't exactly the focus," he noted. "'Twisted Lip' explores a family man's disappearance among the opium dens of London, and 'Blue Carbuncle' is about Christmas geese and the theft of a valuable jewel."
Starring Rob DeSantis, David Gaudio, Robert Gaudio, Noah Hilton, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Jalen Mccrary, Clare McDonald and John E. Reilly, Cloak & Dagger On the Air: Holmes & Watson will be performed in the style of live radio drama, complete with a score performed by classical pianist Roberta Fedoush and sound patterns by the Holy Foley Molies.
The production will be available to the public in two ways. First, it will be broadcast free of charge through the Weirton Area Museum & Cultural Center's Facebook page. Viewers will have an opportunity throughout the show to donate to the museum through PayPal at (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/weirtonareamuseum). All proceeds from the livestream will go to benefit the WAMCC.
It also will be open to an in-person audience. Admission is free, although those attending in person are asked to consider a donation to WAMCC to help the museum and Cloak & Dagger cover the costs of this production.
No reservations are needed, and all current CDC COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. Masks are optional.
The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center is located at 3149 Main St., Weirton. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with R.J. Gaudio, Troubadour, warming up the crowd. The show will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary donates to causes
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary met Nov. 8 with President Shirley Brecht calling the meeting to order.
Prayers were offered by Mary Ann Smith and Marcy Spano. Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott gave a report on cards that had been sent on behalf of the group.
Brecht lead the members in the Pledge of Allegiance, which was followed by Vice President Darlene Kemp conducting roll call. Secretary Marcy Spano read the minutes from the October meeting which were approved as read. Brecht gave the treasurer's report.
The group voted to make a donation to the Community Bread Basket in Weirton.
Christmas stockings are being collected this month for the nursing home. The auxiliary made donations for Wreaths Across America and for Toys for Tots.
December marks the 30-year anniversary of the auxiliary's establishment, it was noted.
The club's adopted veteran will celebrate his birthday this month, which the auxiliary will acknowledge with a gift card.
Members were reminded that dues are due in December.

at East Springfield VFD
EAST SPRINGFIELD -- The East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be hosting a fundraiser quarter auction at the fire department, located at 9854 county Road 39, Bloomingdale.
It will be held Dec. 4 with doors opening at 11:30 p.m. and the auction beginning at 12:30 p.m.
A $5 entry fee includes one paddle. Additional paddles will be available for $1 each.
There will be food available for purchase.

Steubenville Lions Club plans OSU-Michigan tailgate party
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Lions Club is planning its 26th-annual tailgate party for the Ohio State-Michigan game on Nov. 27 at Froehlich's Classic Corner, Steubenville.
The donation is $60 with proceeds to benefit Lions charities. Tickets are available from any Lions club member or at Froehlich's.
Only 200 tickets are printed, and tickets include drawing for cash prizes, large screen TV viewing and food and beverages for two.
The reverse drawing includes: First number drawn, $100; every 25th number drawn, $50; fourth number from last drawn, $50; third number from last drawn, $100; second number from last drawn, $150; next to last number drawn, $200; and last number drawn, $2,500. The winner need not be present.
This year's corporate sponsors are Muxie, Tri-State Financial, Franciscan University of Steubenville and Trinity Health System.
Harrison CWC sale of used Christmas items continues
HOPEDALE -- Harrison County Catholic Woman's Club is sponsoring its 20th-annual sale of used Christmas items, which continues Friday and Saturday at Sacred Heart Church Hall in Hopedale.
It is being held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

WEIRTON -- Members of Weir High School's Class of 1967 will be meeting on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for breakfast at Nana's, located at 390 American Way, Weirton.

Irondale VFD holiday craft, vendor show set for Nov. 27
HAMMONDSVILLE -- The Irondale Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a holiday craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Saline Township Complex, located at 164 county Road 50, Hammondsville.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the second-annual department food drive.
Admission is free to the event that will feature a variety of local vendors and artisans selling home decor, apparel, jewelry, hand-painted signs, wreaths, wooden craft items, baked goods and more.
There will be a Chinese auction, a 50-50 drawing and food available for purchase.
There will be a drop-off area for canned food donations to benefit the food pantry.
Pottery Addition VFD hosting holiday vendor show Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Pottery Addition Volunteer Fire Department, 448 Kingsdale Road, Steubenville, is hosting a holiday market vendor show on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It will include a 50-50 drawing and Chinese auction, and food will be available.
There will be more than 40 vendors, selling a variety of baked goods, wreaths, clothing, jewelry, kitchen ware nad decorations among other things.
Admission is free.
Proceeds benefit the fire department.
Tri-State Marine Corps Club collecting for Toys for Tots
WEIRTON -- The Weirton-based Tri-State Marine Corps Club is collecting for Toys for Tots.
Toys can be dropped off at the Weirton VFW at 3435 Main St. or Holiday Lanes bowling alley, located at 3745 Main St.
"We are here to help those in Brooke, Hancock, and Jefferson counties," a news release notes. The age limit is from 6 months to 10 years old.

Weirton United Way Turkey Trot scheduled for Nov. 20
WEIRTON -- The third-annual Weirton United Way Turkey Trot presented by TC Energy will be held Nov. 20 at Marland Heights Park. The race will include a 5K Run/Walk for all ages, a 1-Mile Fun Run for ages 13 and under and a free Toddler Dash.
Race-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start time.
The first 150 registrants will receive a drawstring race bag.
Pre-registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-Mile Kid's Run. The family event will include free refreshments for participants, Hancock County School's Story Book Cafe, and an inflatable bounce house provided by Weirton Rental.
There will be a best costume element to the event with judging by Weirton Mayor Harold Miller.
A food drive benefiting the Salvation Army and the Community Bread Basket will be part of it. Attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for which they will receive a ticket toward a drawing for a $100 gift card. One ticket will be given for each item brought.

Adena Lions taking orders for roses, carnations until Nov. 16
ADENA -- The Adena Lions Club is in the midst of its rose and carnation sale with orders needing placed now through Nov. 16 with any club member.
A dozen roses are $20 and are available in red, pink, yellow or assorted. Carnations are available for $20 a dozen as well with color choices being red, pink, white or assorted. Checks can be made payable to the Adena Lions Club.
Orders will be delivered Nov. 23 at the community center in Harrisville.

FOLLANSBEE -- The Follansbee Community Days Committee is organizing a fundraiser quarter auction.
It will be held Nov. 21 at the Follansbee Community House. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. with bidding beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The fundraiser will include a Chinese auction and a 50/50 drawing. Refreshments will be available.
