Members of the Gift of Years group met Oct. 26 at the Disciples of Christ Church in Weirton to finish sorting donations for the Baker's Dozen Christmas project. The group collected needed items to be given to the Yellow Ribbon Girls of Elwood City, Pa., who started with the request of one soldier and have grown to support the needs of several hundred servicemen and women. In addition to the 13 items such as batteries, toiletries, snacks, etc., the group was able to make a monetary donation of $635, which can be used to mail the items to servicemen and women this Christmas. With the donations are, from left, group chairperson Paula Brown, Janet Rymer, Karen Welsh, Janet Ford, Cheryl Kondik and Betty Chappell. Brown expressed appreciation to the congregations of the Disciples of Christ Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Oakdale Presbyterian Church, and Sigma Master Sorority for their "overwhelming support and donations to our servicemen and women around the world. Especially at Christmastime, our soldiers need to feel our love and support."
