TORONTO -- A local girl's guided experiment this summer at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County "erupted" into some big attention.

Nine-year-old Adelynn Rose had the highest erupting volcano experiment at a program this summer at the Toronto Branch of the library system as part of its Summer Reading Club.

Author Diana Perry of Yorkville travels to several states across the country to present interactive programs using science experiments to teach children about the weather. One of the experiments is to make a volcano eruption.

"The highest was 18 inches, which was beaten by Adelynn Rose this summer. Her volcano shot up to 22 inches," Perry noted.

For that achievement, Perry recently presented Rose with presents and a plaque that will be on display at the Toronto Branch. Perry is currently on her 10th and final year of a book tour to 10 states. Sher is the author of "The Weather by Heather" and has written several articles for national children and adult magazines and has been a guest on television shows.
