STEUBENVILLE -- Nine leaders in education, recreation, law enforcement and business were honored by the L.A.W.S. Movement Monday during a banquet held at the Sycamore Youth Center.
The 10-year anniversary of the Lee Alexander West Memorial and Award program featured a 2022 roster of honorees introduced by Cookie West, founder of the L.A.W.S. Movement.
West's son, Lee Alexander West, was 15 when he died in a house fire Jan. 31, 2011. To celebrate his legacy, his family established the Lee Alexander West Memorial and Awards Service to honor educators and, later, first responders who have impacted their Jefferson County community.
The 2022 honorees were, Steubenville Parks and Recreation Director Lori Fetherolf; Steubenville Police Dispatcher Jacky Hines; Nannette Neary of the School of Bright Promise; Steubenville High School's Kimberly Scarfo; Edison High School's Sharon Wilson; Indian Creek's Sarah Bolen Colaruotolo; Aggie and Gus Monezis, retired owners of Gus's Goodies; Zach Thomas, son of the late Mount Pleasant Police Chief Thomas L. Thomas; and Indian Creek High School's Matthew Shreve.
Hines and Thomas, accepting on behalf of his father, the late Mount Pleasant Police Chief Thomas L. Thomas, were recipients of the Heart Award, recognizing the courage, bravery and selfless acts of first responders.
Fetherolf, Gus and Aggie Monezis were celebrated as Investors, individuals who invest their time, money and resources to build community wealth.
