Sycamore Youth Center, MLK Association collaborate for

program scheduled Feb. 25

STEUBENVILLE -- Wintry weather caused the cancellation of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance Jan. 17 at the Sycamore Youth Center that was to have included a special presentation by Steubenville native and private chef Janese Boston of Columbus.

But a rescheduled modified event featuring Boston is on the calendar for Feb. 25 at the center located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, according to Bobbyjon Bauman, center director.

Only 40 slots are available for the Black History dinner that will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with fifth-grade through 12th-grade students welcome to attend.

"This event is free of charge thanks to a generous donation from the MLK Association of Steubenville," Bauman noted.

"This event is taking the place of the MLK Youth and Children's event which was canceled because of snow," he added, noting the Feb. 25 event is a collaborative event between the Sycamore Youth Center and the MLK Association.

The event features a buffet style dinner highlighting "a black history menu and a soulful conversation led by Chef Janese Boston and guest."

Legion Post 33 auxiliary is

hosting dinner-dance Feb. 12

STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville American Legion Post 33 Auxiliary will be hosting a Valentine dinner-dance from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the post, located at 808 N. Fifth St., Steubenville.

Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with dancing to DJ Dan Connor until 10 p.m.

The menu includes pasta, meatballs, salad, bread and cake from the Downtown Bakery. The cost is $7 per person. Members and guests are welcome.

Reservations and payment must be made by Saturday, which can be done at the post.

Mingo Senior Center to host

Valentine event on Feb. 9

MINGO JUNCTION -- The Mingo Senior Center located at 633 Commercial St., Mingo Junction, will host a Valentine party on Feb. 9 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Attendees are encouraged to wear red and should RSVP by Feb. 8 by calling the center at (740) 535-1639.

The event will include a 50-50 drawing and prizes.

Steubenville Saddle Club plans awards banquet for Feb. 13

STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Saddle Club will hold its awards banquets on Feb. 13, beginning at 2 p.m. at Four Seasons Ministry Community Center, located at 129 School St. in the former Pleasant Hill Elementary School off state Route 213, Steubenville.

The meeting and banquet will include the election of officers for the 2022 season along with award pre sentations for the 2021 show season.

The banquet will take the place of the club's February meeting.

Show dates for the 2022 show season at the club grounds, located at 8675 state Route 152 N., Richmond, are May 8, June 19, July 17 and Sept 11.

The rain-or-shine shows begin at 9 a.m. with halter/showmanship classes. Contest classes do not begin before 3 p.m.

Brooke High staff, students

involved in benefit dinner

WELLSBURG -- Staff and students at Brooke High School, as well as many community members, are teaming to hold a spaghetti dinner to benefit Lisa Haught, who has cancer, from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 at the school.

The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children for the meals, which includes pasta, salad and bread.

There will be drawings for gift baskets. Those interested in contributing may contact Amy McMahon or Jess Malinky at the school.
