Tri-State Winemakers Club plans next meeting for March 4
WEIRTON -- The Tri-State Winemaker's Club holiday party was held Dec. 10 at Giovanni's Restaurant in Weirton with 33 members attending for the evening that included a meal, wine, socializing and after-dinner games.
The club took up a collection totaling $225, which was donated to the Friendship Room in Steubenville.
The club's January meeting was held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville with 16 members in attendance. The monthly wine-making discussion focused on how to cold stabilize a wine. The business meeting was followed with dinner provided by hosts Kay and Jim Dowdy and Erma Rangos. Other members provided side dishes and desserts to be enjoyed with everyone's homemade wine and brandy. Rangos' family was on hand to celebrate her birthday.
The club is exploring opportunities for future wine tastings, tasting events at local wineries and encouraging members to bring friends who are interested in making wine to the meetings. The March 4 meeting will be at Mario's in Weirton for a social dinner. Another social dinner is planned for April 29 at a location to be determined.
The club's regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville.

Fundraiser dinner Saturday
to benefit Eagle Scout projects
RICHMOND -- A fundraiser Saturday at Richmond United Methodist Church's fellowship hall will generate funds for three Boy Scout Troop 20 Scouts doing Eagle Scout projects to benefit Richmond Park.
The spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from noon to 6 p.m. with patrons able to dine in or get takeout. The dinner includes salad, bread, dessert and a drink. Cost is by donation.
Another fundraiser dinner will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on March 19 at the church.
"We have three Scouts doing Eagle projects to benefit Richmond Park," explained Boy Scout Troop leaders James and Michelle Linscott.
Max McConnell will be building six picnic tables for the new pavilion, two of which will be wheelchair accessible, and a community bulletin board for posting village and park information
Gage Cable is building a fire pit/patio area that will add to the park's appeal and use, and Luke Linscott is building an exercise station that walkers and joggers in the park can use to enhance their workouts by giving a place to do pushups, situps, pullups, dips, jumpups and other body-weight resistance exercises.
"We also have three additional Scouts who are working on approvals for Eagle projects that will benefit the Pleasant Hill, Knox Township and Amsterdam areas," the Linscotts noted.
