St. Joseph the Worker hosting Lenten Eucharistic Mission
WEIRTON -- During the week of March 19-24, St. Joseph the Worker Church, 229 California Ave., Weirton, will be hosting a Lenten Eucharistic Mission.
The Rev. William Casey C.P.M. of the Fathers of Mercy will be speaking at the local parishes during Sunday Masses and then present a Eucharistic Mission for four nights on March 21-24.
The theme of a "Eucharistic" Mission was chosen to promote Eucharistic Adoration, a spokesperson explained. "Our local Catholic community is in the process of establishing Perpetual Adoration in the Communion of Saints Adoration Chapel located in St. Joseph the Worker Church," the spokesperson noted.
The chapel is open to all people of the Upper Ohio Valley who wish to participate either as a guardian or visitor. Adoration is open every Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The week-long event will be used as recruitment for guardians, people from various local parishes who commit to a specific hour of Adoration each week in the chapel. "Their role is to ensure that the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone. By their generosity, the chapel can remain open for others to come and visit our Lord," the spokesperson continued.
"We are now registering guardians for Saturday Adoration from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. When at least two guardians have signed up for each hour, the chapel will open for another 12-hour day of Adoration.
"Our goal is to establish Perpetual Adoration which would make Our Lord, present in the Blessed Sacrament available in the chapel day or night, 24/7.
The four nights of mission talk will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening followed by Confession from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Refreshments, child care, a Eucharistic display and the opportunity to register as a guardian will be available in the church vestibule. For information call (304) 374-6170.
St. Paul Church hosts fish fry every Friday during Lent
WEIRTON -- St. Paul Church in Weirton will once again sponsor a fish fry every Friday during Lent, beginning on March 4 and continuing through April 15.
The hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The fish will be from Coleman's Fish Market in Wheeling.
It will feature fried fish, baked cod and fried shrimp. Sides will include french fries, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and haluski, a dish with noodles, cabbage and onions.
The fish fry will be held in the St, Paul School cafeteria located on Walnut Street in downtown Weirton. "For the first time in two years, we are allowed to have in-person dining," a spokesperson noted. For pick-up orders, call (304) 797-1182 to place an order.
Weir High School Class of 1970 to meet Wednesday at Mario's
WEIRTON -- The Weir High Class of 1970 will hold its monthly dinner meeting on Wednesday at Mario's Restaurant, located at 3806 Main St., beginning at 6 p.m. All classmates and their spouses are invited to attend.
Woman's Club of Steubenville to resume meetings March 7
STEUBENVILLE -- After a January and February winter hiatus, the OFWC/GFWC Woman's Club of Steubenville will resume its meetings for the 2021-22 club season.
President Carlotta Jordan will preside at the March 7 meeting that will be held at Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville, beginning with a noon luncheon.
The program will be a presentation by Flora VerStraten-Merrin of Friends of Beatty Park.
Linda Wells will give the invocation.
Steubenville Saddle Club
to elect officers Tuesday
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville Saddle Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the club grounds, located at 8675 state Route 152 N., Richmond.
Business will include the election of officers.
The club is marking its 75th year and preparing for the 2022 show season. The opener is May 8 with other shows scheduled for June 19, July 17 and Sept. 11. Shows are open to the public. There is no admission. A concession stand features a variety of food.
Shows begin at 9 a.m. and end after contest classes that will not begin before 3 p.m.
