Crestview Inn at JVS holding fish fry Fridays through April 8
BLOOMINGDALE -- The Crestview Inn Restaurant is serving up seafood during the Lenten season.
The eatery housed at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School began holding events in early March, and the public can come out for some carryout fish and shrimp meals prepared by culinary arts students.
Instructor Glen Zalenski said it was the first time his program has conducted the sale, and they have seen a steady stream of customers. It also afforded his students a chance to expand their culinary skills off of the main menu.
"The students wanted to try some new challenges, and I thought with the fish fry Fridays we would get extra people in, and it would be open to more of the public. These dinners are carryout only," he added.
Patrons have a choice of fish or shrimp, onion rings or french fries, hush puppies, cole slaw and bread for $11. Meals are available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be picked up at the restaurant in the rear of the school building. The fish fry will continue each week until April 8.
But the restaurant remains in operation on Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a menu of soups, salads, sandwiches and other delights for dine-in or carry-out options. Eleven juniors and seniors created a "basic bistro" cuisine such as burgers, fish sandwiches, broiled chicken dinners, chicken and steak salads and homemade soups while seasonal fare is also available. Zalenski said students are always looking to add something new.
The restaurant is located at 1509 county Hwy. 22A in Bloomingdale. For takeout orders, reservations or information, contact the Crestview Inn at (740) 264-5545, extension 602.
