DAR Fort Steuben Chapter has program on 1800s clothing

WEIRTON -- The Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution heard a program about clothing from the 1800s when members gathered for the March 19 luncheon meeting held at Giovanni's Restaurant in Weirton.

The program was presented by guest speaker Kara Gordon, site manager for Cockayne Farmstead in Wheeling.

Regent Vickie Joseph called the meeting to order. Chaplain Roberta Fedoush gave the invocation and led in the national anthem. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Barbara Starkey and the American's Creed by Nancy Valles.

Registrar Susan Welch introduced prospective members, including Griselda Taylor, Flora VerStraten-Merrin, Ashley West and Kim Ashton.

During the business meeting, minutes from the previous meeting were waived. Secretary Janet Rymer, secretary read the list of new officers. Treasurer Patti D'Aurora gave the financial report.

Under committee reports, it was announced that 55 people have made reservations for the 100th anniversary banquet celebration to be held May 14 at Undo's. Pictures of members with 25 or more years are needed.

Members were reminded to record their service hours. Volunteers are sought to help catalog as part of the patriot records project.

As part of an America 250 project, the chapter looks to part with Old Fort Steuben to fund a statue of Baron Von Steuben.

April 23 and Oct. 8 are the dates for the Honor Flight, it was announced by Jeanne Vega.

March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans Day.

Under old business, members were reminded of the March 25-27 dates for the state DAR conference.

In new business, Welch reported that the chapter has six new members.

The topic of the need for humanitarian aid for Ukraine was broached.

The next meeting will be held April 9 at Giovanni's Restaurant.
