Tri-State Winemakers to
offer wine tasting April 29
STEUBENVILLE -- The Tri-State Winemakers Club held its March meeting at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville with 18 in attendance.
The monthly winemaking discussion focused on eliminating the heavy lifting of full wine containers by using pumps, smaller containers or other mechanical means for lifting.
The business meeting was followed with dinner provided by Carol and Jon Patton and Denny Johnson. Other members provided side dishes and desserts to be enjoyed with everyone's homemade wine.
The club is exploring opportunities for future wine tastings, tasting events at local wineries and encouraging members to bring friends to the meeting who are interested in making wine.
The club will be providing a wine tasting for the Weirton Lions Club at the American Legion Hall at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, on April 29 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The club's regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Inquiries about club events, membership and other activities may be directed to President Wendell Barner at barnerwl1@aol.com.
Irondale UMC drive-through fish fry happening on Friday
IRONDALE -- The Irondale United Methodist Church is having a drive-through fish fry from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church, which is located on Grant Street.
The menu includes fish, baked potato, macaroni and cheese, hush puppy, cole slaw and dessert, all for a donation to the church. "You can stay in your car, and someone will take your order and bring it to you," a spokesperson explained.
Mingo Knights of Columbus
having award banquet April 23
MINGO JUNCTION -- The Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 will hold its annual awards banquet on April 23.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. It will be followed by presentation the awards for Knight, Family, Youth, Chaplain of the Year and the Larry B. Campbell Merit Award. There also will be the presentation of the Blue Coat Award and the Volunteer Award that will now be known as the Bill DellaPenna Volunteer Award in memory of DellaPenna.
The cost for the dinner is $15 per person and includes chicken, salad, vegetable, potatoes and cake. Reservations are needed by calling the hall at (740) 535-8037.
SHS Class of 1959 buys paver
for new baseball complex
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville High School Class of 1959 celebrated the beginning of spring at its March luncheon held at Froehlich's Classic Corner in Steubenville.
Norina Eroshevich led the group in thankful prayer for all present and for those unable to attend. Pete Barren thanked classmates for their support and donations, enabling the group to purchase a paver from the Class of 1959 for the new ball complex. Tom Maxwell provided light entertainment, "bringing many chuckles and smiles," a spokesperson noted.
The next luncheon will be held April 20 at Froehlich's Classic Corner, beginning at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to Eroshevich at (740) 219-2234.
Follansbee Nazarene church holds rededication service
FOLLANSBEE -- Follansbee First Church of the Nazarene held a rededication service on April 3.
The Rev. Kevin Dennis, district superintendent, was the guest speaker, delivering a message to the theme "The Stages of Transformation." Special music was provided by Amy Shaffer. Guests attended from Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The Rev. Larry Barkley is pastor of the church with the Rev. Jim Barnhart the associate pastor.
S.O.A.R. planning luncheon meeting April 27 at Mario's
WEIRTON -- The next meeting of S.O.A.R., an acronym for steelworkers of active retirees, will be held April 27 at Mario's Restaurant, 3806 Main St. Weirton, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch will consist of pizza and a soft drink. Reservations are required by calling (304) 797-9785 or the union hall at (304) 748-8080 by April 23.
Minority Health Month events include men's breakfast
STEUBENVILLE -- A men's health breakfast is the next event on the calendar for the observance of Minority Health Month, one of several activities being organized in April by the Neighborhood Community Development Center of Urban Mission and funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
It will be held held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 23 at Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, located at 708 N. Fifth St., Steubenville. It involves a healthy breakfast and guest speakers who address prostate health and men's general health issues.
A free prostate screening will be held April 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center. Registration is under way for men ages 40 and older. The deadline to register is April 19 by contacting Barb Steitz, patient navigator, at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, at (740) 264-8207.
