Easter egg hunt is Saturday

at Millsop Community Center

WEIRTON -- The Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at the Weirton Millsop Community Center.

The event, beginning at 11 a.m., is free of charge and is open to all area children aged toddler to 10 years old. The event will include more than 6,000 Easter eggs, prizes, cookies and hot dogs.

The Easter Bunny will be on hand for pictures.

All participating youth will meet in the gymnasium and be called out by age group to collect eggs at the Edwin J. Bowman Baseball Field, located directly behind the community center. In the event of inclement weather, the egg hunt will be held inside the community center.

This year's Easter egg hunt is co-sponsored by gold sponsor Hancock County Savings Bank as well as Weirton Elks, First Choice America Federal Credit Union, Weirton Firefighters IAFF Local 948, Sheetz, Weirton Dairy Queen, Novelty Plus and the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation.

Humane society fundraiser craft and lunch set for May 1

WINTERSVILLE -- The Jefferson County Humane Society will hold a fundraiser Mother's Day craft and lunch on May 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the FOP Lodge at 341 Kragel Road, Richmond.

Tickets are $35 per person and available at Hauser Furniture, located at 3905 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, and the Jefferson County Humane Society shelter at 200 Air Park Drive, Wintersville. Tickets include wine and mimosas, a lunch buffet, desserts and all crafting supplies needed.

Toronto beautification group taking orders for geraniums

TORONTO -- The Toronto Beautification Committee's annual geranium sale is under way with orders being accepted through April 23.

A geranium is $3.85 and is available in red, white, coral, light pink, salmon and dark pink. Order forms can be found in Toronto at Tri B's Coffee Shop, Subway, the post office, the Sweet Shop and Toronto Apothecary. To order by phone, call (740) 537-4332.

Brooke Hills Park to observe Earth Day with a kite festival

WELLSBURG -- Earth Day will be observed at Brooke Hills Park on April 23 with a kite festival held by the New Era Kite Club from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A puddle walk, designed by the Northern Panhandle Conservation District to educate people of all ages about the cycle of water, will begin at noon.

There will be free kites for the first 50 children, and many other kites, giant pinwheels and other yard decorations for sale. There will be a disc jockey, and food will be sold.

Recipe club meeting April 26

to include ideas for brunches

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library's Recipe Club will meet at noon April 26 and share ideas for brunches. Everyone is welcome to share recipes and samples of the finished product.

Follansbee Community Days

fundraiser is bingo on May 7

FOLLANSBEE -- Follansbee Community Days is organizing a bingo fundraiser on May 7.

It will be held at the Follansbee Community House, and doors will open at 4 p.m. Bingo starts at 5 p.m.

The $35 admission fee includes 20 games of bingo, six cards per game, food and drink. Tickets can be purchased at Moe's on Main in Follansbee or by calling (919) 210-7538.

Library to show two dramas

WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library will show two drama films: "American Underdog" at noon April 22 and "A Journal for Jordan" at noon April 29. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.
